I was driving to work this morning and the car started to knock and miss. # 6 plug blew out. The problem is why the knocking? I don't want to go to the time and expense of the timesert kit if the engine is bad.

If this is not fixed yet try to get access to an OBD II generic scanner. Look at the mode 6 misfire data. Bad COP's will show up under that data before they are bad enough to set a misfire code.

You would unplug them both and check for resistance between 2Q and A and 2R and B. Resistance should be just a couple ohms at the most with both ends disconnected. You would also check for a short to ground. We have everything from smashed wires to mice eating them in the shop over the years.

Is the car running bad? If the car is running okay you should look for other causes of the lean code. Vacuum leak, bad or dirty mass air flow sensor or ? If the car is not running bad I would hesitate to tear into the engine. Running a smoke test for vacuum leaks should be done after the car...

There are a couple ways of getting the fuel out. If the car has a rollover valve it maybe hard to siphon. I usually tap into the fuel pressure port and jump the fuel pump relay or just run the car and pump out the fuel. You could also disconnect the line and jump the relay. Little bit of a pain...
