    Exhaust Tips-Info from your "tips"-

JamesHecker, the stock tips are tuned to eliminate a passenger compartment boom many people find objectionable. For details see: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=5154#post5154

Suspension softening, AM radio poor sound and bad fit and finish

If you want more damping, you might want to try the Police Interceptor shocks. Don't use the police front springs, they have the same rate as Marauder springs, but raise the front end.

Oil change, gauges and Mobil 1

WolfeBros, some simple tricks to make filter changes easier were discussed earlier. See below. If you are going to change your Marauder filter, pick up a few simple tools to make it easy. My local Murray's has a socket tool which works on both the original Motorcraft and also on courser end...

    Pinion Angle?

Heavy351, I have to disagree with you about the side view diff angle not changing as the car is lowered. That would only be true if the trailing arms were parallel and equal length. Because the upper arm is shorter, for a given drop it swings through a greater arc, pulling the top of the diff...

    Pinion Angle?

Russ, don't get too caught up in the urban legend about the Marauder having some sort of driveline vibration. Having driven your car as delivered, you inherently know that isn't really true. Everything in the universe, however, vibrates at some frequency. For driveshafts that frequency is...

    Steering wheel misaligned

Let the dealer do his job, but this is actually fairly easy to adjust. To get the steering wheel vertical, both tie rod ends need to be equally adjusted to turn the wheels farther in the same direction that the steering wheel is off. For a front steer car like the Marauder, if the top of the...

    Foam removal???

MMpridenjoy, just "taking out any foam they see under there" is probably not a good idea. The passenger compartment is very well sealed and deadened to keep noise out. The luggage compartment is much less so. The foam ring you described in your first post is probably just a soft gasket to...

Ford offers Fuel Tank repair kits to customers

Jefferson-mo, because the rear shock absorbers were moved outboard of the rails for 2003, the 2003 version of the axle shields doesn't have the shock covers/snow scoops. Even the earlier versions are designed to drain pretty well. Despite all that, I'm not putting shields on my car. I very...

    New Owner/Early Impressions

Matt, you mentioned that not only did your car pull to the right, but that your car "understeers - have to stay on top of it". Most of us have no pulls, and we love our precise and responsive steering. The combination you describe leads me to think you might have something damaged or loose. I...

    McGard Wheel Locks

I'm very picky about wheel balance, but a 0.5 ounce overweight lock at the bolt circle is only equivalent to about a 0.125 ounce balance weight at the wheel rim ((4.5 in./18 in.) x 0.5 0z. = 0.125 oz.).

    McGard Wheel Locks

I highly recommend wheel locks. As a matter of fact, they have been on my to do list for the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, my wife informed me this morning that my Marauder was sitting in the driveway on blocks. I think there is maybe a message here. Even if you live in a very low...

    Need some oil advice???

MdMarauder, the Marauder does have a 4R70W transmission. The fluid definitely should be changed at least according to Ford's schedule. The Marauder does however have a couple of major shudder avoidance improvements over your earlier T-Bird. It uses Mercon V, and it has a much better cooler.

highway rpm's with the gear change

The math is very simple. divide 4.10 by 3.55. That gives you 1.155. Multiply 1.155 times any present (3.55 Axle) rpm to get the new rpm with a 4.10 axle. This also means that for any given engine rpm, you will have about 15.5% more torque available at the rear wheels.

    Squeaking in front suspension???

The rubber suspension bushings on this car, even including the front stabilizer bar bushings, are designed to wind up, not slip. Lubricating them won't help.

    Oil cooler?

High oil temps on these engines are basically a product of sustained very high RPMs. If you use synthetic oil, unless you are doing a major soup up, you really won't need a cooler.

    Silencer Removal Fix

This is a Helmholz resonator. These things are tuned to minimize particular frequency peaks many people find annoying. The resonator should have no effect on performance.

how much of mazda does ford own?

Japanese Law is different. Ford does effectively have control of Mazda. The last couple of Mazda chiefs have been from Ford.

Snow tires - will this thing stay on the road?

If you don't mind seasonal wheel changes, Tire Rack should be able to fix you up with a decent winter package for a little over $600. If you are brave/stupid/experienced(pick any two), the stock tires can be used in the SE Michigan flatlands. October and later build cars have traction control...

Pic of MM with 20 inch wheels

Onebadmk8, The 2003 front suspension is totally new. The F150 springs don't fit any more and would be brutally stiff if they did. The Marauder has already been lowered to compensate for the 18 inch wheels and doesn't have a huge amount of wheel travel left. Dropping the car much more will...
