People usually install C-clip eliminators for the drag strip, certain classes require it. One workaround is to have 9" ford ends welded onto the 8.8" axle tubes.

It is unbelievably tight. Like pretty much impossible tight. Hardest part is punching out the freeze plugs from that angle. I would go from the top of the head instead. Light years easier. Just imho

You could also have the crack welded up and keep your old one for a spare
