I have been scouring the internet and this site for many days now and cannot figure out what is causing this sound coming from the top of the engine, passenger side between cylinder 5/3. I have just installed a brand new engine ( due to a main bearing fail) and ran like a champ for about 3 months. Then I noticed a tick or rattle at various RPM’s while driving. I noticed it was getting worse so I removed the valve cover on the passenger side and noticed my (new) cam tensioner was chewed up with the plastic top completely gone to the metal. I immediately drained all the oil and filter and replaced it after the put in a new tensioner. Again, the rattle was still there. I took the cover off again thinking my lifters were going bad – replaced them all and changed the oil again. Put the cover back on – no change. I have not verified the oil pressure directly from the pressure sensor, but I am showing 70+ pressure while running. No codes of significance are showing on my computer. I am starting to suspect low pressure. What do you think could be causing this since I am showing positive oil pressure at the gauges? Before I replaced my engine I never had any sounds and ran a oil relocation kit with a Fram “doubleguard” filter PH60. Never had any issues. Additionally I installed an oil cooler with the new engine. Could this be the problem? If so why did it happen gradually and not immediately after it was installed?
