All right, all you guys with chrome valve covers. What did you have done to them? Real 3 dip Chromate bath??? The two stage powder coat chrome (chrome pc then a clear since the chrome oxidizes over time) and even the single stage Eastwood Chrome look halfway between silver and chrome. The powdercoats in chrome are not impressing me at all. I've done it, had two different shops do it, tried the single stage Eastwood recently and it all looks exactly the same!!! Detailed info please!![]()
I been on the same mission you have been. I purchased and tried about 5 different "chrome" powder coats. My cam covers are out of the ford catalog and are called powder coated chrome appearance. I have searched high and low for this powder and I have come to the conclusion that the covers are polished with a powder clear coat over it. It's the only thing I can think of. I recently used Eastwoods two stage ultra chrome powder on my short runner intake and its probably the closest you can get to a chrome look in a powder. I used this same powder on my crossover tube and it looked more silver the chrome.
Here's the intake.
Now here's that same powder on a crossover tube.
And on a alternator bracket
Front timing cover.
Different metals make it come out looking brighter then others but still nothing compared to a polished piece or actual dipped chrome.
