Mounting spare tire under trunk

I'm afraid I have no magic solution for the spare tire issue. I am interested in your trunk-mount battery setup. If you don't mind, please describe the battery mounting setup and how you routed the cable.

Baja edition?

Nah, didn't work too well for these idiots.

Did Ford ever use the spares that you had to air up with the supplied can like '78 Camaros had? That is nice and small.

Your best bet is to rebuild the box with more complex shapes to utilize the trunk dead space more & provide space for spare. Calculating ft^3 will be challenging. Box doesn't need to only be a cube.

Yeah it sucks because the tire really almost fits, I just can't quite squeeze it past the box, well RF I have no idea what the hell that means so I guess I shouldn't start pulling it apart and moving it around

How I ran the wire is described in this excellent post by JoeBoomz which I referenced many times thoughout the install

As for the battery mount, I built it out of spare MDF, it also holds the amp for the subs, which was all it was originally supposed to do. Basically the the amp is on a flat piece of wood bolted to that little platform on right side of trunk. When i realized I needed a second battery I made an upside down |_| piece and put it on top of the amp, screwed into the original board. The battery is on top of the upside down |_| and is secured the same way it's secured up front, I cut some small blocks and staggered them to hook the battery down and used T nuts to screw the blocks in so I can take the battery in and out. Battery is grounded to frame via the grommet on the right side of the trunk (both sides have it though) again when I can I'll post pics and explanation of everything as I received alot of help from the board

Edit - reason I'm not rebuilding the box is this is the exact specs I needed it to be, and given the dimensions of the trunk it barely barely fits, I actually had to assemble it inside of the car, it's three separate pieces because there was no way to get it all in at once. I'm sure I could move the dimensions around a tiny bit but it wouldn't be worth the effort to redesign that thing, it's a bandpass built to the exact specs of the subs and it's been a big enough pita as it is, I think I may just get a smaller spare at this point

Smaller spare or does it fit deflated? You could also carry a cigarette lighter powered air pump for if you need to use the spare.

Someone else mentioned that I must have looked over it, that actually might work because it really almost fits. I'll try that tonight and see what happens!

Now I knew I would get some good ideas here, I just wish I had known earlier they would be so classy! I just put in an order for a 5th wheel mount, 7 swanger rims and a gold plated/red white and blue themed tow behind luggage compartment

I had to search for "swanger rims" This guy has 2 tire spares.. easy. :D

Now there's an idea!! Imagine the peace of mind! :D

Well I think my solution is going to be to keep a tire plugging kit and little dc powered air pump I have in the trunk, and if the thing blows out yes yes I'll call AAA!

Run flat tires do work well but they make the ride a lot rougher, I had them on another vehicle.

Just a tip: whenever using a compressor, make sure your car is running, underpowering a compressor will shorten its lifespan.

To the underside of the deck/trunk lid. It weighs only 30Lbs (18" aluminum, painted-black rim) and the existing tie-down hook hardware could probaby be used. You would have to increase the tension in the deck/trunk lid's torsion bar to accomdate keeping the trunk deck/lid open while it's attached.
.

Thanks for the tip whitey

And Joe I could possibly use that set up whenever these subs break and I redo the system, at the moment the port from the box occupies the space needed to mount there

Sorry Joe but I don't believe increasing the torsion bar tension will work. I have a decklid cover made out of masonite and carpet and unless the car is on level ground or front end on the down slope the decklid won't stay open by itself.
