2003 Transmission

Hello all. I have a 2003 Marauder with a bad transmission and I am having one heck of a time finding a replacement. I know mine has a 4R70W with the long tail housing and tail shaft. I have found some other 4R70W’s but they have the short tailhousing. Does anyone know which specific vehicles have the same tranny that I can swap into mine? I pulled mine out and of course it doesn’t have the ID plate on it so I don’t know what number it’s supposed to have. I’ve been told certain police interceptors have the same tranny and some grand marquis along with 03 Lincoln towncars. I found a 2003 Lincoln towncar but the tranny is still in the vehicle and it’s quite a haul to go there to measure the tail housing hoping it’s the right one. I did call ford and they verified it is a 4R70W but they cannot tell what tailhousing it has. They did provide me with the number plate that should be on that car though which is 3w1p-7000-ca. Anyone know if that’s the same tranny? Thank you!

Its the same as p71 , limo, and yes some town cars.
Have you tried www.car-part.com?

i just searched there and is see some for above and below 200.00...

Might score one locally for a 2003 marauder.

If you buy a 2004 you will have to buy a tuner and change the parameters between the oss occ? tooth count...

The civilian MGM and CV have the short shaft..

I also had a hard time finding one last year. Needs to be from '03 marauder or CVPI. I didn't know about limo or town car but an easy indicator is the 1 piece aluminum drive shaft. The steel 2 piece shaft works with the shorter housing.
Another option is a 4r70w with the shorter housing and a 1" spacer that goes between the drive shaft and pinion yoke.

Thank you for the replies. When I called the ford garage they said my tranny would have a plate ID of: 2w3p-7000-aa. I will have to see if the town car has a one piece driveshaft.

you put your long tailshaft housing on if the trans has a short one..short is for steel driveshaft, longis for aluminum..it bolts on the rear of then trans..6-8-10 bolts?

That clicky is how to convert a steel driveshaft car to aluminum.

Are you suggesting he finds a civilian short tail shaft transmission and using the adtr adapter on the mm shaft?

I do not see prices, i wonder how much they want for the adapter.

Cheers

It's an option..CV guys put cvpi driveshafts into their lx and Marquis all the time. Or he can spend $2000 and get it rebuilt which is what I would do. **** used trans, rebuild it right the first time

Just have to find a reputable tranny shop, which hard to come by these days.

I happen to have a long tail shaft housing and a balanced cvpi drive shaft I might be willing to sell. If you're interested p.m. me and I will give you the details.

2001-2003 police car or town car is the transmission you need and will be a direct swap for what you have.

Marty, the output ring gear teeth count changed in 2004... 2004 and up is 24 slot, 2003 and down is 6 holes.

88grandmarq: I am going to look at the 03 town car this weekend. Does it matter if it has the limo package or not? I believe this one does not have the limo package. Thank you

Transmission is the same, regardless of what package is installed. Just be aware that most town cars have 12" torque converter

Basically, don't use the town car torque converter.

All town cars even the non "extended wheelbase" models were longer than CV/GM/MGM's, they should all have the extended tailshaft housing we need. It'll just come down to finding the proper year.
