95 Cobra match up for Marauder

Bradley G

broke but not dead!
I was talking with a fellow today who has a 1995 Cobra Mustang, his brother has a Marauder.
He told me that his brother keeps telling him that his Marauder will spank his Cobra Mustang.
The Mustang owner does not feel quite the same way.
The only mods on either car is, the Mustang has a CAI.
The Marauder owner is considering a torque convertor as an performance mod.
I told him it should be a pretty fair race as they sit now.
I also told him with to get a comparo run before the convertor.
It may be his only shot to beat the Marauder, unless he is willing to mod away too.

My neighbor has a mustang, not sure what year but its an early foxbody convertable. He is interested in a run with the Big Black car. Maybe in the spring we'll give it a go.

That very much depends on the real weight of the Mustang.
If you compare the Marauder weight to the high end of the Mustang range.
The Marauder actually has a higher horsepower to weight ratio.
Weight range of the Mustang;3055-3565 @240 hp
Weight of my Marauder 4150 @ stock hp 302
Kinda surprising?
power to weight=the mustang wins

95 Cobra is not a Fox-body. I'd run him and it would be close with only a Lidio tune and JLT intake.

Hack, run the Fox vert and you should spank it unless it's cammed, headers, etc.

Ive ridden in a 95 cobra with the 4v v-8 and 5sp manual, it felt like it had 40 more horse at the wheels.

It deponds on the race? 0-60 mustang, 1/4 too close to call, top speed forget it Marauder hands down

With the torque multiplication the Marauder might have an edge. Automatic to Automatic. Automatic to Manual if the Mustang does a clutch drop it will make a little bit of difference but the Mustang will go harder earlier.

My 86 Mustang Cobra (Canada only) i had 200 bhp and 285 torque. Didn't weigh very much. It was fairly fast, but not as fast as my Marauder. Pulled hard then tapered off, Marauder pulls not as hard but keeps building and building. On a Quarter mile I would say the Marauder would have an advantage but it will be close. If the Marauder has a Tune that would help.

If the Marauder wants to win put a corner or two in a race and it will trash the straight line racer that most if not all early Mustangs were.

Gosh, if a barely modified MM would keep up with one of those, they sure as hell didn't do much for the Cobra namesake!

Sorry guys I'm not up on my Rustangs. I had an 85 Stang and that was the last one I'll own. The only thing my neighbor has is headers and a CAI.

What year did they go from the fox body to the 90's style?

The last year for the traditional "fox-body" mustangs was 1993. The "4-Eyed" Stangs (my personal favorite) ended in 1986 and were replaced by the "aero nose" Stangs from 1987-1993. In 1994 the SN-95 Mustang was born and stayed until the current body style that arrived in 2005. Many of the Mustang purists will correct the "Fox Body" nomenclature as they were actually "Fox Chasis" cars like the LTDs and Fairmonts etc. :beatnik:

wikipedia said that too:

but there was a definitely body/styling change from 99-04 where they looked this like work of art
