Lovin the 410's

Hey all, just posting up some feedback from my recent gear change. I went with FRPP 410's, a HD 8 carbon fiber clutch trac lok w/ spring upgrade, and royal purple for gear oil.

For anyone considering upgrading the gears, DEFINATELY go 410's! It really isn't as huge a difference as I thought it would be. The car feels great now and is 10 times more responsive from any speed. I think I would have been dissapointed with 373s.

And the craziest part, I used to get 18.5 mpg, now I am getting 18. Overall I'm real happy with them...

other than the fact that my bone head mechanic must have installed them wrong, because I am gradually hearing more and more gear whine :shake:

just have him adjust the lash..... i got the same thing done yesterday (except add the 31 spliners) and it feels good too...

Congrats

Good to hear you like 'em!

I'm seeing about the same mileage variance in mine over the 3.55's and given the improved responsiveness, it's well worth it.

glad you like them 410,s i went from 327-373 and i love them 410,s would be nice but i,m on the road to much to warrent the 6 dollars a gallon for 94 octane cheers

After the lidio tune Ive been really enjoying the trans improvement on the stock 3.55's and was begining to think I'll leave it like is but after reading this i'll probally be headed for 4.10's after steeda udp and LFP steel coil connectors!

:banana2: Do it :banana2:

It's alot more subtle than I thought it would be, the way everyone talks about 410's I thought I'd have traction issues, but it's really perfect for this car since it's so heavy.

IIRC, the original Marauder program called for the car to be fitted OEM with 4.10's but the beancounters nixed that, apparently on paper that made the car non-compliant with CAFE standards.

I was wondering why they didn't do 4.10's in the first place...........

One of the best mods for a MArauder.

Aren't you glad you did it?

My mileage went down cause I'm gettin' on the go pedal more..... :D

I was wondering why they didn't do 4.10's in the first place...........

The story I heard (and it was 3rd or 4th hand) was that when the bean-counters took original sales projections for the Marauder and calculated projected mileage for the cars running 4.10 gears, it lowered the CAFE for Ford by a decimal point or so, thus the decision to go to 3.55's

Hindsight being 20/20, we now know:

  • They didn't sell nearly as many Marauders as original sales forecasts predicted.
  • The mileage difference between 3.55's and 4.10's is negligible.
  • Bean-counters don't know squat. ;)
