Yes the big pin in the center has to be removed. When the seal leaks it usually means the axle and bearing is bad, but maybe just junk seals. u-tube must have video's of pulling axles.

On the left inner fender you will see a black box, that is vacuum storage for stuff like the a/c. I don't know where it is in the system but there will be a back check valve. That box and a working back check would keep the vacuum to the a/c when you are hard on the gas.

I believe if you have the system off when you turn off the car it opens that outside air door to vent the cab. If you have it on vent already does it make the noise / vacuum sound ?

I would think bulbs and or the contact of the bulb socket to the printed circuit. Would recommend going led, you can get new sockets and led bulbs together and change them all. you can pick some off ebay or here get in touch with FBM FAST BLACK MERC He will have the right ones for everything.

On a push rod motor that has suffered poor maintenance / lack of oil changes will have lifter ticking. What does an overhead cam sound like with gummed up lifters ? You may want to just put some miles on it and see if any thing changes ??

An answer to this question would be good. I put one in one of my 03MM and it clipped in. Then swapped into my 04MM and it will not clip in just gets real close. I worked with it and can see no reason why it does not clip in. But it sits there solid without popping out while driving.

When it won't come out of park you need to check the brake lights then just to be sure. The switch could work good when it is cold and later when warms fails at times ?? maybe.

A bad cap would make it leak coolant but not overheat. Thermostat is original ? also looking at the coolant is it also original ? both things do not last forever. Would be a good place to start before you are stuck somewhere other than the driveway. Any thermostat can stick at anytime but...
