fastblackmerc

Everything Marauder, LEDs & HI
Looking to sell my 1 owner 2004 Marauder, black, dark charcoal interior & factory moonroof. Less than 100K. Needs a respray. Think it's worth 10k. Tons of work done to it and tons of spare parts included

Jim! I just tried to call you, and your voicemail is full...I'm SHOCKED to read this, and CONCERNED...never thought I'd see the day...please call me when you can! Four 0 4 Nine 9 Five Zero 9 9 Five

That C&B price leaves me scratching my head. Mine (58K miles) was appraised that nearly four times that value for my Hagerty policy 3 years ago My agreed coverage is $37K with the 'Cherished Salvage' option.

I'm finding MM prices to be... increasingly puzzling.

Pricing seems to have broken into two tiers. Cars under 100k miles, in good shape, generally fetch $15,000 and up. The SB in the C&B ad mentioned seems a price outlier, both at the C&B site, and especially compared with historic MM sales at Bring a Trailer.

MMs on AutoTrader, Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc are just all over the place, in terms of asking price. Some are asking far too much for cars approaching 200k miles. Others ask barely more than what Crown Vic LX Sports seem to be selling for. And the problem with such sites is that the selling price is not revealed to the general public once the car is taken.

In general, though, the lack of activity on this site is telling, I think. Ten years ago, or even five, fastblackmerc's original post would've generated a vigorous response. Which makes me think that prices in general... are not headed in the upward direction.

I agree with most of what you said here. I think almost everyone that frequents here already has one so selling one here usually doesn't work out. I must be the anomaly here because I've bought 6 cars off this site.

I had one listed here for almost 3 years, a 2 owner unmolested car for $15k with 95k miles. It was a really nice car but had typical paint problems on the roof. The guy I bought it from owned the car for 17 years. I had one fellow from the site come from PA to NY to look at it. He offered me $13k for it but had to get a loan to pay for it which didn't work out.

I had another fellow from the site who had previously bought a 300k mile project online from AZ for $5k insult me with a $5k offer for mine without even looking at it ,as if my 95k car was equivalent. Other than those 2 & a few picture collectors no other action from here.

I then put it on FB marketplace and for the most part got insulting offers for as low as $2k without wanting to come look at it. Also had a few no shows from there but after 6 months I finally had an 85 year old man reach out who wanted me to call so I knew he was serious. He actually came here and ended up buying it for $11.5k which I settled for because I was wore out from the whole ordeal.

I saw yours on market place, thought you were asking a fair price and saw you continue to lower the price so I guess you got tired of the bs too.

Unfortunately the Marauder market is a very small niche one and I think most people here are the only ones that believe the car is worth a lot. I think $10 to $12k for a nice driver with between 85 to 125k miles is about it. I think the only ones that are bringing big money are less than 60k garage queens.

Another thing that I found really frustrating was people not wanting to come look at it just wanting to deal with me online. I must be too old because I need to go look at a car before I will even think about buying it.

Oh yes! I was unprepared for the level of bs that comes with selling a car online nowadays.

Started off on Autotrader, and got a quick, but dirty, response. Over and over again, scammers were trying to get me to go over to some website or other in order to prove my car's history via anything other than CarFax. When I said nope, here's the CarFax and that's all you get, they evaporated. The more-sophisticated scammers set up an appt to see the car first, then bailed at the last minute, claiming some emergency, but claimed that they'd buy if I simply went to www.notascam.ru and ordered a report. More thorough than CarFax, don't you know. /s

Next posted my MM on Marketplace. As you describe, nothing but lowballers and no-shows. Lots of PMs along the lines of, "this car is just a crown vic with foglights. your asking way to much!" The smart set does their car shopping on Marketplace, apparently. :) No scam attempts, though.

Ended up selling the car through Craigslist, of all places. Gentleman from the next state over called to make an appointment, and asked a bunch of intelligent questions, so I knew he was serious. He showed up a few days later with cash in hand, and the deal was done.

An interesting process, to be sure, but I won't feel like going through it again for awhile.

It was truly mind boggling!!

I was also mistaken by that the fact the car had less than 100k miles on it really thought that would be a draw. It was nicer body wise and underneath than both of my MM's I would have kept it but I already spent a bunch modifying the one I had bought that really needs paint.
