Let's just say WOW! Got the tuner and 4.30's from Dennis and installed them Sunday. From stock to now is day and night. Today was the first day I could really get on it and let me tell you it was great. The car is a beast compared to stock. I have a lot more planned and with summer coming it won't be long. I can't say enough for Dennis as most probably know. I'm not sure about what the 4.10's feel like but the 4.30's are down right cool :coolman: . Rpm's on highway aren't even too bad, but for the acceleration gained that's not even an issue. I debated for a while and couldn't be happier with the results. Thanks again to Dennis and if anyone is questioning what gears I'd have to reccommend 4.30's all the way. Absolutely no regrets!!!!!!!!

That's good to hear, scareme! Congrats on your new-found rear end muscle! I'm finally getting on the modding bandwagon myself, and am looking forward with great anticipation to getting the 4.30s in AS SOON as I get my new P.I. torque converter installed. (Which I should be getting any day now from Dennis?) I've even got my 4.30 SCT tuner files ready to go already!scareme said:
Since I'm putting off the Trilogy blower for now, I'm going a bit more aggressive on all my N/A mods, hence the decision to go with the 4.30s. I tend to drive 75-100MPH on the freeway . . . hope the high RPMs at those speeds don't get me too worried!

I noticed at 70mph=2500 75mph=2750 80mph=2900
these are rough but close to what my car has been running but as I had mentioned the highs far out weigh that one low which isn't even too bad unless you like to travel faster than 75-80 on the highway. A TC is in the works for me as well, keep me posted after install.

I never ordered a driveshaft because I don't really feel it's neccassary, however if a vibration starts, I will quickly. I had it up around 100 with no problems to speak of and I will test it again to see if I hear anything. I don't really plan on going over 100 too often so right now this isn't a concern. But as I said if a problem comes up I will be on the phone with DR immediatly.
Here's the way it's been explained to me. When gear sets are made by/for Ford, there are 4-5 levels of quality in the cutting of the ring/pinion. They start with "A-gears" which go into Lincolns. "B-gears" which go into Ford & Mercury Passenger cars. "C-gears" which go into Trucks and SUVs...and so on.ultravorx said:

In other words...motst of the "outcasts" become Ford motorsport gears. That's why you can buy them for $150-$180 (compared to $450-$550 that you could purchase some "A-gears" in 4.10s/4.30s if they are even made for something like the Navigator), that's why they don't come with any warranty and it is usually a hit or miss whether you get a good set that are quiet or not. This is usually not a concern for most performance folks, cause these are usually going in Mustangs, where gear noise is not readily heard over aftermarket exhaust.
This is my understanding of what I've been told...as recently as yesterday.
Yeah mine have a slight whine to them, I was told basically the same thing, it's hit or miss. The whine can't be heard unless the music is off or it's real quiet outside like late at night. I really only hear at 40-45 and 60-65. Besides that it's there but I have to listen hard to hear it.

Todd, thanks for posting that information. I was not personally aware of that. I added rep points for the info. I set up my FMS gears twice trying to get rid of the whine. It's only minor (a 3 on a 1-10 scale) but it bugs me. I've set up dozens of rear ends here at the dealer and never had one make noise until mine. Now I know it's not me. Thanks :beer:

I was wondering why the dealership quoted me $500 for gears when they're so much less elsewhere. My car is at the dealership today (dropped it off late yesterday) having the 4.10s put in. I hope they don't whine, but if they do at least I'll have some understanding as to why.
With a known whine, that isn't too loud, barely audible unless I'm trying to hear it I'm not too worried. But I was wondering if there are any noises to listen for if there is something wrong in the rear. If the gears are gonna cause a problem can anyone tell of how it might feel, or sound before its too late? Or once there's a nasty noise is it already too late?
