95 Cobra match up for Marauder

The last year for the traditional "fox-body" mustangs was 1993. The "4-Eyed" Stangs (my personal favorite) ended in 1986 and were replaced by the "aero nose" Stangs from 1987-1993. In 1994 the SN-95 Mustang was born and stayed until the current body style that arrived in 2005. Many of the Mustang purists will correct the "Fox Body" nomenclature as they were actually "Fox Chasis" cars like the LTDs and Fairmonts etc. :beatnik:

Wow... I had a "4 eyed" stang. 1985 coupe. It was alright but it just kept falling apart. It probably didnt help that I was 17 at the time and ran the dog stuff out of the car.

Sounds like you are up on your Mustang history.

Joe the race won't happen til spring. The guy with the Mustang says he needs to fix a tie rod, so it was just speculation at this point.
So who won the race already? i mean why ask if you have a chance run the thing.

Hey thanks ebxgsxr, I can't believe the lapse of the 99-04 S197 body style from High-C (who seems to know his Stangs)... I sorely miss my Cobra (thanks for reminding me) but it gives me time to focus on my family style cobra!

I never liked the SN-95's, except the Bright Atlantic Blue 98 Cobras.

I had a '80 GT (1st car), '84 Predator GT350, 90 LX Coupe/Notch, '92.5 LX Special Edition vert, Triple Black '99 Cobra, '04 Mystichrome Cobra and lastly the above linked '03 Cobra vert.

The MM should have had the exact same motor as the '03-'04 Cobra, blower and all, just my 2 cents.

Tie rod my a$$, how many times has that kind of excuse been used to make some HP improvements! It's all fun, I look forward to the day I'm next to a Mustang at a red light on 121 (it's a 6 lane divided highway that has stop lights if you can believe it). It's a lovely, flat piece of fresh concrete just made for runs.

That is not really a fair comparison, that they are almost ten years apart.

The engine in the MM existed in production, albeit with a different head design, two years prior to the '95 Cobra (in the '93 Mark VIII). You're right, there is a large time gap between the MM and '95 Cobra, but the technology hasn't changed much in that time. I imagine Ford kept the inept 5.0 for that year Cobra since the Mustang GT's also used the same engine, and the 4.6 needs a different bell housing.

96-98' were respectable for their time. Ford outdid themselves when they brought them back in '03.

Yes, huge improvement in '96 for sure. I have a '98 Cobra intake manifold on my '97 Mark VIII, and while that's a fast machine the Cobra has much less weight to contend with. As has already been said, the MM really should have shipped with the '04-'04 Cobra engine. That would surely have kept depreciation at bay.

man i cant wait to see the pics from that build. i wish i had the cash to buy your cobra. was it someone from this board that purchased it?

Hack, I am lucky enough to still have my '85-GT... It was my first car and I got it back in 1991 when I was just 15 years old. I too dogged the crap out of it and it now has 208,000 miles and is still on the original motor. :cool4: My current project is a completely new interior. It has turned out to be a much more difficult endeavor than I expected...

It's really tired but in 2010 I can register it as an antique vehicle in Northern Virginia (home of the emmissions nazis) and it's gonna get a bad-ass 331 with a blower... I can't wait!!! Here are a few recent pics:

I don't know what I was thinking... :shake: How can I forget about the S197s that are some of my favorites as well. Who hasn't lusted over a few Terminators? I know that I have... It's cool to see that your first car was a Four-Eyed Stang as well. Four - Eyed - Pride Forever!!!

car looks clean High-C. definitely post some pics when the interior is completely finished. i miss my vert. here is a pic of it when i bought it from the previous owner (except i didnt get the welds from him, just had the 5 star ponies).

Nice Foxes guys! My next one will be a 90-93 notch.

ebxgsxr, a forum member on the SVTP site bought my car then proceeded to drive it in the rain to Shreveport! He asked if the winshield wipers worked and I laughed and said I didn't know, she hadn't seen rain in 2 years. He had just sold a black 98 Cobra vert and always wanted a termi.

That was a GT mustang, and that was a MM on steroids!! I thought we were looking at a stock 94-95 cobra and a stock MM??? If so i think the 5 speed in the cobra would help to beat the MM

I'd say more than likely the 5 speed is a handicap. Before you start laughing, this statement comes from many days at the track. The average Joe out there just can't shift. I'm betting 80% of the 4, 5, 0r 6speeds out there would improve by more than a half second with an auto.

i totally agree, the art of "grabbing gears" is almost long gone. Ask someone if they have even heard of a three on the tree let alone drove one, i have and they are fun! Even drove a 4 speed ford van and my favorite oddball a 5 speed turbo caravan! If you can drive stick the 4-5-6 speeds will give you an advantage to control your shift points better than an auto.

If the Marauder and the Mustang are both stock, it will be close. My stock MM and my 89 LX convertible 5.0 5spd w.3.73s both ran a 15.1. With a JLT, 4.10's, and a Lidio tune, the MM ran a 14.2. If the Mustang is an auto, MM should easily handle it.
