Warpath, You could have made a valid and worthwhile point about street racing without insulting Darryl who happens to be a friend and a respected member of this club, your intentions may have been good but you went about it all wrong....let me ask you this: How well do you respond to criticism, when it begins with the words you idiot ????
Fair enough and point taken. I appologize to all who I offended for losing my cool. However, I don't appoligize for my position on street racing. I wanted to make a point and hopefully reduce or prevent these stories from being posted. A simple, "Ahem, perhaps going over 100 on Woodward was a poor decision" would have likely been overlooked. I don't like it when people glorify such unsafe activities. I'm am used to other boards where a thread is immediately locked when street racing is mentioned and the poster is chastised. I'll summarize why I hate street racing:
There is no control over the environent during a street race. You do not know if there is an oil slick, pot hole, shrapnel, etc. on the road which could send you vering off the road into someone else or something else. What if a part breaks and you lose control? You cannot control where other people are and whether they pull out in front of you. I agree there are public areas that are lower risk than other. But, the risks still exist.
At a track (I making assumptions from pictures I've seen), the track is well kept and cleared of debris. Vehicles are safety inspected before the race and you are required to have proper safety equipment (helmet, cage, etc.) at least after the first run. There are ambulences near by in case of an accident. If someone loses control, they're contained within the track. The only risk to life and limb are to the drivers who know and accept the consequenses. No one else loses personal property.
You may believe that the coast is clear and a particular area is safe. But, that is not fool proof. The arguement that you don't know of any racing accidents is fooling yourself into believing past luck will continue.
I'm not a competitive person. I don't have the need to prove I'm better than anyone. Doing so, to me, is only serving to inflate one's ego. As I stated before, putting others at risk against their knowledge or without their approval for personal satisfaction is foolish IMO.
Hack - I have no idea what you are talking about.
Billy - I get similar reaction from other people as I do from you. People ask me what I do with the car (race at the strip or road course, shows, etc.). They laugh at me when I tell them the truth. You may not believe it. But, there's nothing I can do to prove it. I certainly do not go 55 (limit is 70). I usually go about 80-85 on the highway which is not uncommon. But, I certainly do not go that fast on a side street.

Those who feel the need to preach to others are usually just making up for some shortcoming of their own. Often times people feel the need to preach and have others "do as they do" because they lack confidence in thier own convictions. Having "others" join them in a certain behavior makes them feel better and justified.
Say what you will. I couldn't care less about what others think of me. We all have our shortcomings. I pointed out some shortcomings of members here. I "preach" because I feel strongly about it and the reasons above. I feel justified because I spoke my mind.
