Are there any Excursion owners here? Good/bad luck? Looking into a 4X4 with V10...plenty of pulling power? Anyone know the hp & trq ratings? My family has now grown to 6 including me & requires more seating. Thanks.

No, but wish I did. My wife has the Lincoln Navigator with the middle bench seat so it seats 8 people with seatbelts. Great if some are teenagers or smaller. I tried to get her into the Excursion but no luck.

With the Navigator, you can get a Trilogy & pump it up a bit. I would guess the kit should go on the 5.4 Excursion.
 
I did a lot of research on the Excursion a couple years ago in anticipation of getting one. If it were me, I would take the PSD over the V10. Especially if you plan to tow. And at this point, I would try to find one with the 7.3L, not the 6.0L, unless it is like late-'04 or newer model.

Why the PSD - better gas mileage, better towing ability, longer life. But that is just me. I did drive one with the V10 and it went down the road OK, but that is a vehicle that can use all the power you can give it, especially if you plan to tow. Otherwise, I think it is a great vehicle. Lots of stuff out there for them, too.
 
I know that you are not buying the X for great MPG but expect around 11 MPG with the V10. Even if I could afford that type of MPG it would still piss me off.
 
Excursion Owner

I have a 2000 4x4 Limited with the 6.8 liter v-10. I am running about a six inch lift from pro comp and 315/75/r16 tires. Plenty of power even when towing a 7000lbs trailer with all 8 of my family members. Stock diff gears are 4.10 or 4.30,, I know they are for sure at least 4.10 if not lower. Has no trouble with oversided tires. Rolls down highway at 100 mph all day, up most hills.
My sister and her husband has same vehicle only with the Power Stroke with some Banks upgrades. We both ran against each other on a 250 mile round trip from Las Vegas to Brian Head Ski resort. I know it probally would of been all Power stroke if we were both pulling a trailer, but mine stomped hers into the ground. They were a little suprised and peeved but they got alot better mpg than I did. 14-18mpg for them and 9 for me. Also city driving is around 6-7mpg, a real pooper when it take over $100.00 to fill it up each week.

Have you every looked at the Toyota Sequoia. It has a I- Force V8 ,seats 8 adults with cargo space behind. Not too bad on gas either. Me & My wife have one close too 2 years , no problems at all, and its a great truck. Two of my friends have them with 4 Wheel drive in New York and they love them too. Just a Idea.
 
My buddy just bought an '05 F250 with the V10... it rocks.

We drove '04 and '05s back-to-back... and the difference was incredible... the '05 F250s got coil springs up front, while the '04s still had leaf springs... night and day difference.

The '05 V8 has more hp than the '04... not sure about the V10s.

Anyhow, if I were you I'd try to find out if the Excursions got the same upgrades because the difference was amazing... the '04 drove like my '97 (which ain't all bad), while the '05 was sweeeeeeeeeet.
 
Again, I love the X and would take one if 1) I could fit it in the Garage, 2) the wife wasn't planning on a SUV or Crew Cab truck, 3) I needed more seating than 4 or 5 places.

For me, I will keep the Marauder, the wife wants either a Navigator or Mark LT (with Crew Cab) and eventually have a F-350 dually with the PSD to use for towing as we plan on getting a boat some day. the Mark LT or Nav will be used to tow to start with, but I want a true, dedicated tow vehicle some day. Again, long term plans.

I don't think the X ever got the upgraded front suspension. I think they just kept the platform the same until this year which I think was to be the last year for it. Only thing I can think of is to check Oasis and maintenance history for any tranny problems. They do seem to like to eat trannys, especially if used for towing at all.

Thanks for the info. We leased a '99 Expedition until 2002 with the 5.4 and I loved it other than the ride. Felt like if it would have a longer wheelbase, it would eliminate the rocking motion (front to back) we get from the secondary roads around here. It had plenty of power and the 4wd came in handy more than a couple of times. At that time, we only had two small toddlers and it had plenty of room....but kids only get bigger and so does their luggage. A 350 mile round trip (when we totaled 5) would have the Marauder's trunk completely filled. I know we could use the extra room behind the 3rd row seat of an Excursion.

Currently we have a 94 Escort and '93 Tracer to do the local driving chores, and we have put less than 16,000 miles on the M since April '04.

My wife drove her dad's '04 F250 with a PSD, and she said it was too noisy. She would be driving it 75% of the time, so I tend to agree with her on that point. Looks like a couple of deals on some used '05's. Thanks guys.

Almost forgot...will they fit under a 7'0" high garage door??? The Expedition just barely fit with the luggage rack on.

I do not think it will fit in a 7' high garage door. When we were looking to build a house, I was going to go with 9' high garage doors just to fit an X. I think it takes at least an 8' door - especially depending on your approach angle.

Bought an '01 7.3 PSD X new and couldn't be happier. It gets unbelievable mpg for an 8800 vehicle (17-18 hwy is common for me on the roads I drive. Your mileage may vary.). I haven't had any issues beyond a water pump and it has 70k on it. It responds well to modification and has room for everything. I speak frequently with the RV trailer haulers out of South Bend, IN and many of them have over 400k with only a trans change. I have heard that the early 6.0 PSD's had some issues but those may have been worked out by the time the last models were produced. BTW, it is noisy and I didn't help it any with the 5" exhaust but the wife is the main driver and she wants to be buried in the thing. I have a 7" high garage door on a side load house and it fits with 2" to spare. The garage length is under 21' and I just fit lengthwise. I have also parked it at the Midway airport parking deck with no issue. The biggest pain is the 44 gal fill up. I believe the gas version has the same size tank but 13 - 16 mpg hwy typical.
