Bolt for the top idler belt pulley is broken off into the cover!

Hello all,

The bolt for the top idler belt pulley is broken off into the cover. My question is

Can I tap to a bigger bolt?
If I drill out to bigger will metal greet into motor??
or
Do I have to Change cover?

It shouldn't be too hard to get out as now there is no load on the threads, but go easy so you don't damage the cover threads.
 
Aluminum cover,steel bolt..dissimiliar metals create it's own corrosion. Good e z outs dont break as easily as cheap ones. going to need to use a penetrant to help free up the corrosion..pb blaster, Kroil. I don't know if the hole is a thru hole, most likely not..it's most likely a blind hole with wall stock being how much is at the bottom of the hole before breaking into the inside of cover.

I would use a torch to heat it up and add nut buster, let it cool, heat again hit it with nut buster and try a ez out

If you have a welder, weld the center of a 3/8 nut to the shaft, let it cool for 1 minute and hit it with a electric impact, that's the fastest way
 
welding a nut on a broken bolt can work, heat as well, but i would not use an impact on a steel bolt into cast aluminum, easily could just tear the aluminum threads right out.
 
I use left hand drill bit, center punch the bolt use small bit and move up in bit size as you go the drilling will get it hot and it will screw right out. Left hand drills are available at harbor freight. I've tried every easy out and never success
 
Heat the cover not the bolt. You know, that whole expand and contract thing..

If it is broken flush it will have to be drilled and then either left-hand tap or easy out. If it has a stub, you can put a nut on it and weld the nut to the stub, then unscrew it. I did this one with an exhaust manifold bolt broken off in an aluminum head.

I havnt tried it, i dont think hot wax eats away rust.

Heating something till its glowing red and then putting a birthday candle on it just seems backwards, i heard about it when that lugnut guy said it works. I cant say it doesnt work. Heat works. So does the welder.

Taking a lighter and melting candle wax on it with no heat, lmmfao omg wtf what has the world come to, aliens and Illuminati, we live in the matrix i have to poop.
