Brake job cost

Has anyone had brakes done at dealer or anywhere else? I've got 40,000 miles on my marauder and I have a feeling it will be time soon. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what you paid for brakes and if the rotors can be cut or if they need to be replaced. I suppose its important to be able to stop.

Not to worry... I just upgraded my brakes and the original pads have lots of life left, maybe 1/2 gone, at 37,000 miles. You can probably go quite awhile on what you've got.
 
Just had mine done at Energy City FLM, here in Port Arthur, TX. The cost of the parts (shipped) was $489/change; the cost of the labor at the dealer was $169. Brakes done at roughly 24k on the odo.

I'm almost at 70K with the OEM brakes still intact. Will more than likely have the brakes done after the winter has past. Gotta save up and upgrade the devil.

THanks, glad to hear from the responses that I have some life left. Especially after the response that it costs nearly $500 just for the parts.
 
I think it depends on how you drive. Some people are harder on the brake pedal than others. It also will depend on where he lives. if someone lives where there a lot of hills, then ofcourse that's going to shorten the life of the pads and rotors. I haven't had to do brake work on the Marauder yet, but it only has 19K on the clock.

bought the truck new..it now has 155,000 miles on it. mI have a mechanical business where the truck caries a lot of weight most of the time. I bought the 30.oo pads at auto zone on the first brake PAD change.since then all i have done is change the pads every 25,000 miles or so .Have NEVER turned the rotors or anything......
is this a record or just a great






ford mini-truck......the truck has the 2.3 liter motor. I also have 2 other of the same trucks in the fleet with similar results..

600 - 800 for a first brake job seems excessive
 
tvdone - If you are thinking of a brake upgrade now would be the time to do it. If you do a lot of highway driving yo may not need brakes at this time, but it is always good to have them checked. IMO.
 
I've got less than 8,000 miles and it's costing me $1700+ to re-do my brakes. :bigcry: I had a little brake fade once or twice and the guy told me I was going to have to replace the rotors (all 4!), front calipers, front and rear pads, and all the hoses! :mad:

Just kidding, the "guy" is me. As far as I'm concerned this car has a serious shortcoming in the whoa-nelly department. Having 30 more HP than a police interceptor (11+% more) should have called for 11+% more braking, but that's not what we got. So I got in on the KVR 14" kit group buy Dennis offered. It should be here on the 15th and I will immediately install the kit and should be stopping on a dime and getting 8 cents change on the 16th, as it is a bolt on.

I can't see myself waiting around for my brakes to wear out before this car has brakes that are equal to the task the drivetrain is capable putting the car into the situation of needing. Never driving this car for what it's capable of is like taking Viagra so you can have somebody take a picture of it (I think that one's BillyGman's) and the stock brakes are just a limiting factor in it's overall performance. A hot-rod with bad brakes is just a death-trap!
 
It's about $150 at my dealer including machining rotors and OEM ford not Motorcraft pads. If rotors are too thin they are about $125 ea.
 
The best advice I have for front brake jobs is always replace the rotors, $250 is cheap insurance against a thinner rotor that is less massive and could lose effectiveness in an emergency. :grad:

While I'm here, the KVR kit came in yesterday and I put it on today. Awesome braking power now. I know what FordNut was talking about. The front end dips like it's gonna start eating pavement.
I just might be in the market for a new front bumper cover if I push 'em too hard! :awe:
