Cleaning the Exhaust Tips

It's been a long time since my exhaust tips looked decent, and I've never had much luck with making them look shiny and clean. What's a good way to get them looking nice, being very dirty with a lot of carbon built up over the last several years?

Depends how bad they are. I have had good luck on motorcycle pipes with wd40 and 0000 steel wool to clean everything off. With my tips I used sprayway stainless cleaner in a can with the steel wool to get all the road grime and crap off that washing wouldn't. Then followed with stainless steel polishing compound and a buffing wheel. They cleaned up really well.

Thanks, guys. I'll give these a shot, see what works for me. All I've done so far is to just hit 'em with a soft scrub brush and soap.

I pull a piece off and apply to the tips and wait for about 10 seconds then come back over it again with the same piece and just rub till it's clean. Wipe residue off with microfiber towel and then you're done.

Are we still talking exhaust tips or something being ummm, handled in a shower? :D

I use mothers chrome polish. Works great. I use a brush to lightly clean off the majority of the nasty stuff, then finish with a microfiber and the polish to get it really shining. I use two applications if needed. I've heard lots of others talk about the Nevr-Dull as well.

I found this at Walmart and the best stuff I've found. Makes tips look new.

I'll be a SOB! Why am I just learning about this stuff! I watched that youtube video on using a buffer, but I wanted a quick fix, so I bought this stuff. WOW! I've never seen my tips shine as much as they do now. Frickin amazing! I still plan on putting a buffer to them here soon, but I'm happy with thier current status. Thanks for the info!

I've been looking forward to trying at least one of these methods. But I had a friend move in and it's been chaos for almost a week now. Thought I would have gotten to it this past weekend. Too bad Saturday was a meteorological crap shoot bouncing between full sun and snow every 30 minutes.

I use 0000 steel pad and soap to start. I found this a couple of years ago and will never part with it. Great stuff!

Autosol works wonders too. Never Dull is good stuff also. If you use buffing compound on them with a buffer, then follow up with regular cleanings with never dull the tips will look amazing.
