Did your Dad tell you this story?

My Dad is fond of telling stories about his fast '57 Chevy. His favorite one is how he would give rides in his car and make bets. The bet was, he and his passenger would each put money on his front dash. If the passenger could reach up and get it when Dad took off, he could keep it. Otherwise, Dad would keep.
Hmmm, is the Trilogy supercharged MM capable of this? If so, I'm thinking I'll need to be taking my Dad for a ride and a bet! :woohoo:
 
The only story that my Dad told me was when I asked him to buy me a car. My Dad then told me that he walked to and from school and that it was up hill both ways!

I have heard the money on the dashboard story before .... but I can't place where I heard it. Seems it would have to be taped in place. :dunno: According to my son, the KB #8 pinned him to the leather rather nicely. :D

The first time I heard this story it was a $100.00 bill and a 427 Cobra.
 
it is funny, i got a ride in a members trilogy car a week or two ago... i was telling a guy at work about it and he asked if i could reach up and touch the dash. i guess he was referring to that same story... well i didnt try, but there was no way i could cuz i was in the backseat anyway. :)
 
I don't know how many people saw (maybe no one other than me) the show "Full Throttle" last week on History channel about the Buick Grand National. Some Buick bigwig that worked on the program had the same story to tell about the limited GNX. He said no one could reach the $100 bill (or was it a $20?). He threw out a 0-60 time Buick recorded of 4.9 seconds:bows: .

That's what my WS6 does. I still don't think I'd be putting out that kind of bet, though. *shrug* what do I know?
 
I read somewhere that Cobra 427 salesmen made up this little exercise. There was some debate as to whether the bill was taped on the dash or taped in front of the windshield, which would be a whole lot harder to grab, obviously.

Didn't see it but my first car was a handed down 74 le sabre 4 door. Big green tank with vinyl top. After bypassing the AC and smog pump and adding a new air filter that 455 must have been around 300 hp and over 400 lbs of torque. Yea, there were some cars that would easily beat me, but they spent a bunch more money than me to get there and had a much smaller back seat:)

As for the money on the dash story, I've never heard it but I agree it wouldn't stay put.
 
My dad told me he used to do this in his lime green 70 hemi roadrunner 4 speed. Although, on slicks with headers, and bigger carbs, he produced some very old and yellowed 11.70 moroso time slips. I really thought he was blowing smoke untill he showed those to me. Now I want a hemi roadrunner :(

I had a buddy in highschool with a '67 Chevelle, 400 + 4speed (not original, but plenty fun).

He took me for a ride. We were rolling about 8 or 9 mph in 1st gear.

He buried the pedal, and before he yanked the Hurst into 2nd, the ashtray catapaulted itself out of the dash, over the shifter, and landed on the bench seat.

Fer a Chevvy, it was pretty quick!
 
I know a few roads in Alabama where most folks couldn't grab a hundred off my dash if I was just power driving. Fear and that death grip on the "JC" bar would prevent it.
 
My dad drove a 68 Nova with a 151 'iron duke' 4 cylinder.......... :(

It was pretty pathetic..........he bought the cheapest gas and drove it like it had a V8 so it used to break pistons all the time...... :P


I remember goin' to the dealer and seein' brand new Corvettes(probably 69) with a sticker of $6000 :eek:

About the story... I don't think I know ONE person who hasn't had a family member / friend / acquaintance tell them the same story. I've been in a car that peels the passenger's floor mat back on a good launch... it does 12.5x in the 1/4 mile thanks to a healthy '71-vintage 455 HO transplant. But I don't think I'd be unable to reach forward and grab a lousy bill... and I have trouble believing the stupid bill would stay on the dash to begin with, under the sort of acceleration that would pin a human being back for a half-dozen seconds as if paralyzed.

So I'm not buying (no pun intended), although I'd love to be proven wrong...

My 'occurrence' of the story was in my high school years, when the school hotshoe got his Chevelle's clock cleaned by a Hemi Cuda or Challenger owned by a kid in a nearby high school. He told the same story, except it involved the entire length of a tunnel linking the Island of Montreal to the South Shore. I didn't know whether to believe him or not at the time, in my youthful naivete... now? try me...

I concur TransAm. I think it should be easy to grab the bill.. The only way, (maybe) that a person couldn't is if way out of shape... as in not being able to do a single sit-up. But even that's stretching it.
