I read the post stickied above about installing a double din just curious if anyone has pics of how much they trimmed in order to install the Avic D3?

All of it.
Excellent. I guess I can use a chain saw then. ;)

Just wondering if its only the corners or if you have to trim the bottom lip only. I didnt order the dash kit yet but I put my head unit in there to see how it sits.

All 4 'lips' for a D3. Razor knife x3 good passes at each inside corner where the textured trim meets the smooth lip and then grab the piece to remove with a plier perpendicular to the piece and wiggle back and forth. Start at the top for the sides and at one side for the top and bottom. The 'lip' will stress at the score and come off after several wiggles.

Alternatively, you could use a radial arm saw or a Ditch Witch.

Im going to take a look at it again tomorrow. I have a Kenwood Excelon double din and it has a cage as well as front bezel that i didnt use when I iso mounted it in my f150. I might be able to use the stock bezel to wedge it in. I'll try it and take a few pics.

Metra makes a dash kit for 2DIN Fords that is NOT listed for the panther platform. It allows the unit to load from the front and slide right in. I have a 2DIN Eclipse that looks trick with it. Go to a local stereo shop and see if they know what I am talking about. I am thinking the # is 95-5510 or 95-5520. Try those!

you got pics of the eclipse install ? I searched metra's site didnt see those numbers/

Well radio is in. Lots of cutting! I didnt end up using a kit at all. The kenwood's bezel worked pretty good. I uses some really dense faom strpis I had to center the radio and issolate it from the plastic. I ended up cutting some of the inner dash as well to clear all the wiring. I will take a few pics of the finished product later.

BAD MERC,

Did the housing have to shaved in order for this setup to work?

Gonna contribute some pics of my own as a fellow double-din radio owner.

I picked a more obscure (and FAR cheaper) choice though, Kenwood DPX-503. Enjoy. :)

Installer's exact words were "ridiculously tight f***ing fit", but nevertheless I am absolutely nothing but happy with my decision here. :)
