Eatc question

My eatc is stuck on defrost (and a small amount coming out on floor). I pulled the unit, took it apart and replaced all four o-rings. When doing this I noticed two of the o-rings were bad (solinoids pulled out way too easily). I put the unit back together and reinstalled it...still stuck on defrost. I drove the car and parked it. An hour later I pulled the unit back out, when I pulled the vacuum lines off, they were still holding vacuum (good sign). I replaced the orings again this time using a little grease and reinstalled. Still stuck on defrost. I ran the diagnostic self test and the only code it has is 041 which is the ambient temperature sensor I believe...any thoughts?

The only things it could be are:

O-rings

The electronics inside the EATC are bad

Thanks for the feedback. I searched YouTube and the only reset procedure I found was for newer Ford's, it doesn't work with the older ones. If the electronics were bad, wouldn't it generate a code?

I could never get the self test to work on mine when the unit was still operable. The electronics finally went south and I had to buy a new used one.

Not necessarily.

Mine had same symptoms a couple years ago. Stuck in a new eatc, didn't solve. Put the old back in and replaced the blower motor resistor, been working just fine ever since. I had always understood if the resistor went out you'd just lose speed control across the spectrum, but mine took out all functions other than the one...
Good luck.

Good luck.

I think I need to try a different unit, all of the blower speeds and blends work fine.
