Escape Unit Satellite Black Box

Merry Christmas to all the great folks in this forum.

I'm considering the Escape Head Unit upgrade to keep a stock look on my '04 MM. [6L8T-18C815-FD]
Call it Operator Error but I can't find anything on the corresponding Satellite Radio module that goes with it. I think I saw a pic and P/N on here before, but my searches don't turn up anything.

A few questions:

Is the original Escape Sat module out there and if so, pics and part numbers would be welcome!

This unit is old enough (2005) that Sirius and XM were two different companies back then. Is the Escape unit so old that a 'modern' SiriusXM module [I would guess aftermarket] is needed to give Sat radio capability to the Escape unit?

How about antenna options?

Thank y'all -

Thanks

JustBob,

Thank you for the link. I PM'ed him and we'll see what happens.

Did the Sat unit plug and play into the Audiophile head unit? I'd like to pull out the Pioneer I have in the car now and go back to a more factory look.

plug in

From my research - most of it right here - the Sat unit is a separate black box that plugs into a connection on the Escape head unit. It has no buttons at all and is controlled completely by the head unit, so it can be mounted out of sight. The thread I saw a while back showed it under the passenger side seat. I am unsure of antenna mounting at this point. I 'think' you can mount out of sight under one of the C-pillar plastic trim pieces but haven't confirmed this. Worst case, you mount it outside.

I am buying a setup from my new friend roylpita and can give you better definition when I get it all here and get it in.

Hope this helps!

Sat unit

Yes, it does.

Hi Brian,
You already hooked this all up correct? Where did you mount the antenna for the Sat? Where do we get the sat box that hooks up to the radio? I see many radio's for sale but none mention the sat box.

Thanks,
Joe

My Sirius antenna (Pioneer) was ran up the passenger side of windshield and ducks out at the top corner about an inch with two sided tape.

I mounted the brains of it all directly under the radio on top of the hump.

Hi Brian,
Where did you mount the antenna for the Sat?
Thanks,
Joe

The antenna just needs to see the sky, it can be mounted inside the car, it just needs a upward view. Now, if you have metallic window tint, the antenna will not see through that.

I am the guy who instigated this thread; buying the Sat stuff next week so Brian can have a free holiday.

I wanted to keep the sat antenna inside the car if I could, but guess who JUST got their tint job done? Yep, that's me, last Friday. Duh, didn't think about that antenna.......

No problem, I'll find a way to make it inconspicuous. I'll probably use the top of windshield too.

It would depend on the type of tint as to if it would work under it or not.

Depending on the antenna, you can place it under the plastic panel by the windshield, most antennas will fit under there, it is RF, not IR, so as long as metal isn’t over top of it, you’re good for the placement.

sat box

Where do you get the Sat box that is needed? I assume it plugs into the radio? Antenna come with the box? Part number for the box?

Thank you,
Joe

I as well, My original radio reception is finally going after 14 years but do like the original look. This option sounds like a great alternative. Would like to know the Escape unit number, the sat number and the antennae if that is separate Thanks.
