Ever Fell Like a Cop?

On my recent trip to San Jose from Phoenix, most of the drive was at night in the desert. Every car that came up behind me slowed down and stayed put for a while thinking it was a police car. Half the time, they were in the lane next to me such that their lights were in my mirrors. Maybe I should black out the Mercury emblems LOL

I can't tell you how many people I've made put on their seat belts when I fly up behind them. It's funny to see the arms growing out of their head to pull the belt down. In fact I just drove up to Michigan this week, and counted at least a dozen in one 4 hour drive. Not to mention all the folks that change lanes into the slow lane as I approach in their rear view mirror.

I think if I ever get pulled over, I might try to talk my way out of a ticket by saying how I think I am helping more people than hurting... either that or say "oh yeah, you should have seen me earlier, i was really flying" when the copper says "son, do you know how fast you were going?"

Hey, I felt like a cop once. I was about 19 or 20, hanging outside the local bar, She pulled up, got out, and WOW. About 30, blond, built, couldn't help myself, so I told her, "I'd like to feel you." Good thing there was a fight going on, the look she gave me pretty much sobered me up.
 
I always feel like a cop. Well, really, I only feel like one the eight hours a day I spend in a big white car with red and blue lights on top. I seem to get similiar reactions (though not as frequent) from people when I drive my Marauder as I do when I'm in my Crown Victoria (oops, oh sorry...Interceppppptttor...ya right). People tend to slow way down in front of me and won't get the _____ out of the way. This is pain any time (work or play). The only time it gets worse and more people get in the way is when you go code three in the day-time.

Yeah. I know the feeling. It's hard as hell to toss empty beer cans out the window when traffic is lined up behind ya and won't pass! And if ya lay them on the floorboard they leak liquid all over the mats and carpet creating a funky smell later. :D
 
You could do what I have observed for years in the inner-city....cut a hole in the floor board and drop the beer cans, dope, and guns out as you go along. The people behind you will not be able to see where the stuff is coming from and just assume the reason you're swerving is to avoid the junk in the road!!! Just cover the hole with a floor mat and you're all set for any kind of weather. Of course it works best with a rusted out 75 Monte Carlo or an 86 Pontiac GOOLE (6000LE).
 
Most of you have read my post about getting my S/C from Dennis and the experience driving home---well--there was more funny stuff as well--

We had gotten off the I-26 in Orangeburg to eat--when getting back on , wife behind me,, a couple cars got inbetween while getting back on the I--and wife takes wrong on ramp--her East --me West( correct way)-- so I radio her to go to next exit , cross over and get back on West bound--meanwhile I'll go down the on-ramp and wait for you-- under the bridge overpass--which I do and park with my little parking lights on--waiting--

Well she comes flying by without seeing me till the last second, just then and I say ok I see-ya, and look for clear opening and punch it--BUT THIS TIME IT'S A S/C 'ER THAT'S BEING PUNCH--I forgot-- and WHAM- BOOMB! - i Shoot out under that bridge like a rocket over in the fast lane and all I see is brakes lights --I catch up to wife and said--"looks like we have slowed down half the county with that run"--couldn't stop :lol: after realizing what others must have been thinking....oh well there are times--weather meant to or not......Tom
 
when I go to work in my black 03 mm it really screws with folks of course Iam in my sheriffs uniform. the only thing not factory on my car is a police interciptor plaqe on the ass end just to screw with people.

There are a couple 96-99 V8 Taurus SHO's that are running around with Police Interceptor badges on the ass end, and even on the doors. In fact, your dealer should be able to sell you one for $5-10. I guess it depends on where you live, and the laws there, but I personally wouldn't risk it as it's not worth the hassle in case a cop decided to raise issues with it.
 
The "PI" badge doesn't say you're a cop. It's a Ford designation for the specifically equiped car, P71.

Same thing happens to me.

I tend to be completely disappointed when leaving my vehicle knowing that I then will have to use one of our PIs. They just don't have the same get-up-and-go or wow-factor to the seat of my pants! :lol:

Depends on state law, and what judge is sitting when you go to court. Virginia state law says you will not display the word POLICE on a civilian car. Would this include a POLICE INTERCEPTOR emblem? I dunno, the law has never been tested in Virginia yet.....

VIRGINIA LAW

§ 18.2-175. Unlawful wearing of officer's uniform or insignia; unlawful use of vehicle with word "police" shown thereon.

No person, not such an officer as is referred to in § 19.2-78, shall wear any such uniform as is designated pursuant to the provisions of such section or wear an insignia or markings containing the Seal of the Commonwealth or the insignia of any such officer's uniform, nor shall any person not such an officer, or not authorized by such officer, or not authorized by the military police of the armed forces or of the National Guard, or not authorized by the military police of other governmental agencies, use or cause to be used on the public roads or highways of this Commonwealth, any motor vehicle bearing markings with the word "police" shown thereon. However, the prohibition against wearing an insignia or markings containing the Seal of the Commonwealth shall not apply to any certified firefighter or to any certified or licensed emergency medical personnel. Any violation of this section shall be a Class 1 misdemeanor.

I had an interesting thing happen to me the other day. It appears that someone else was feeling like a cop that day. I was on my way to work driving my old beater car (91 T-bird 5.0) and came up behind a former police Crown Vic Police Interceptor. It was white and that little tag on the back that we have been discussing. I knew it was not a real police car. I have almost 17 years in as a police officer and know what community in my area has what in their fleet. To continue...the light turned green and we both turned on to a four lane road. From experience, I could tell he kid driving the CVPI had it to the floor. So I accelerated at my normal rate and passed him leaving him far behind. The next thing I know, this kid comes flying up my bumper and is hanging out inches off the rear of my car. (yes I was speeding and had a jacket on over my uniform). After he observed that I was not spooked, he pulled up along side of me and tried to stare me down. After some time and no change in my behavior, he accelerated and pulled in front of me so that I could see that little tag again. He never knew who he was messing with or that the person he was messing with was possibly armed. For some people, "feeling like a cop" has a whole different meaning.
