flowmaster or Magnaflow - torque & HP

I'm taking my stock 03 Marauder down to a local performance exhaust shop to swap out the factory mufflers for either flowmasters or magnaflows Friday morning. The 4 cats and tips will remain stock. Should i have any concern over "losing" torque or HP? I want the stock sound just a bit louder at idle, cruising and wot but not at the expense of torque or hp.

fyi - i will be getting a Lidio tune and 4:10s in the near future

magnaflows will be your best bet, flowmasters are good but a little on the loud side if your trying to stay close to stock.

Did you ever think of replacing the exhaust tips? The stock ones have resonators built in them and you can buy some that are deleted. This was one of the first things I changed when I bought the car.

:agree:, I just had the flowmasters installed monday. It does get louder. From what I can tell though, the car loses no hp or torque. It does gains

the ability to break necks tho :D.

magnaflows FTW. i have had hem for two years, they do get louder with time but nothing abnoxious.

My Flowmasters are flippin LOUD when you get on it. Cruising speed is very pleasant though, you can hear the exhaust, but it isn't imposing on the rest of the driving experience. One of the reasons my car turns so many heads is that they hear me before they see me. Maybe when I'm old and loud noises bother me I'll go quieter, but I don't foresee that happening any time soon.

I'm also minus the rear cats.

My SB car, Phoebe, came with Magnaflows. Don't know what kind. After 3 years, we changed to Flowmaster 50s when the Magnaflows started to fail. Much louder but a deeper note. The Flowmaster 40s on Blackbird actually sound quieter. There is no right or wrong answer anyone can provide you. There are more than one kind of each brand so that makes a difference too. Your ear will be your best judge. Talk it over with the shop and maybe stop in some day that they're doing an install on a car so you can hear the before and after. Probably won't be a Marauder but you can at least hear the difference.

Well, i did it. I drove the Marauder down to the local exhaust shop and had them install 18" Magnaflows on my otherwise stock system. Took about 2 hours. Overall i like the new sound. It's definitely deeper and no doubt louder but not by a whole lot. No drone. I would say the car sounds similar to the yellow corvette in the Andretti Magnaflow commercial. I kept the stock mufflers just in case i want to convert it back someday.

thanks for all the advice. I go with a tune, 4:10s and upgraded brakes next!
