Ok ...

From what I've been reading it seems as though one has a pretty good chance of encountering the valve tick/head issue at some point. The latest I've read here is Ford really does NOT have a cure for this.

If I may be SOOOOOOOOOO blunt ...

WTF ?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Couldn't they in the very LEAST ..... go with the mod that Dennis sells to help improve upon this issue ?.

Course' - I spose' this would equate to Ford basically admitting that people NON-affiliated with Ford have MORE sense & knowledge than those employed by Ford ... that ultimately designed &/or work on these engines - which would be like a politician admitting they were wrong.

I want an 04 DTR SOOOOOOOOOOOO bad ...

But I can't help but wonder if I might be sorry later.

I hope mine never develops it either, but one thing that attracted me to the car is it has the Mustang Cobra engine. Also the Aviator uses it, so it can't be all that bad. Of course, I feel awful for the people with the tick but what can you do. Just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Don't take too much more time thinking about it--alot of '03s are about gone and alot of '04 are disappearing quickly from lots.....it's not as if you can go buy or order another one---duh!!!!!.............get with it --PERIOD!!!.....Tom
 
The other way around there troll... The Mach 1 has a Marauder motor, which was based loosely on the 01 Cobra motor. Marauder/Mach 1 uses the cast rods and crank. So far, biggest weak link in the short block to date has been the oil pump gear...
 
Ticking

Did I read somewhere else that the factory torque settings for the cam clamps might be the problem? Does anyone know of this, and should the dealers have a TSB for this?
 
Took my in last week for the "tick".

Was told pretty much what everyone else has been hearing from the their dealers.........."We talked to Ford. They acknowledge the problem. There is no fix right now. They're working on one. We'll keep you informed should a fix be developed. For now, don't worry about it, we've documented it on your car, so drive it normally."

Lets hope that documentation holds up past the warranty. What I don't like is " We'll keep you informed should a fix be developed". Sounds like :bs: IMO.

Well, I sprang for the extended warranty, 5 yr/75k miles, so either they fix it prior to the warranty running out, or I'll just be getting another car about that time. We'll see.
 
So long as the dealer has documented it against your vin, they'll warranty it even if the warranty has expired.
 
Eric, any remaining Marauders out there are starting to disappear, so it's really now or never. The incentives will never be better as they are now anyway. I have the tick as well, and have been told that Ford is investigating a fix. This is a pretty high profile motor as it's used in a lot of cars, so if your car does develop a tick, i'm confident there will be a fix for it eventually. It is frustrating if you do have it, but this really is your last chance to own one of the coolest g-rides out there along with $3500 in cash back rebates!
