help with sound system

hello i have a 04 marauder and i just bought a sound system and i want to install it myself because i went to the stereo shop and they want to charge me 450 dollars.
i have :
2 15 solo barics l7
2 t1500-1db rockford fosgate amps
a pioneer avic n3
2 rocford fosgate capacitors

the thing is that i want to use 0 guage wire but i dont know were to run through the car so it can be in my trunk.

If it was like my car you put run the cable from the battery, through the firewall (make sure to use a bung), into the side running board on the passenger or drivers side, then through the back seat (yes that means you need to take the back seat out).

If the MM is different then my car there is probably some other simple way to do it.

The first time I did this it took me an hour or so to figure it all out, now I can do it in minutes.

a few things...

$450 is a good price if they're wiring and installing everything.
The capacitors are basically useless
Uprgade the big 3 if you're going to run that much juice.

Have you ever installed an audio system before?
 
I ran my 4AWG behind the fender and then through the passenger runningboard, then through the b pillar into the interior of the car then through under the back seat, worked out pretty nicely.

And $450 is a rip-off for the ability to do it yourself.

I disagree. They're probably asking more than normal because they didn't make any money on the equipment he purchased. They've got to profit somewhere.

and to further add to the point, if you can't figure out running an amp wire from the battery to the trunk, you don't have any business trying to install $2000 worth of equipment, just my opinion.
 
yes i have instaled sum stereo systems byt the thing is that i have never done 0 guage wire that thing is lie an inch thick thats why am asking is sum one had an idea
 
To do it right, you'll probably have to drill a hole in the firewall and use a grommet. A lot of places now sell a grommet nut that you just run the wire through and then tighten it together.
 
If those amps are class D amps and you have TWO - expect a full-tilt amperage consumption of about 140amps. By all means, upgrade the battery ground too. The power cable is only as thick as the battery ground. Throw the capacitors away. $450 seems like a smoking deal for a day of work with a 2DIN head unit and all the necessary disassembly of the car. Expect to upgrade the battery, alternator and wiring - as already mentioned here. I have done this 22 years - I am pretty much burned out.
 
Also I agree 450 dollars to have the system professionally installed is worth it. It is just finding the professionals that is often the hard part. I have recently found someone I trust, but before that I was always wary.
 
A good to decent sub box for two crazy powerful subs like that...built to thiel small parameters etc...I would normally pay between $350-500 just for a great box(mdf/fibergalss and custom shaped of course). As long as the shop is proficient and quality...I'd give em some money and gain peace of mind and someone to turn to if things go wrong...or you need help!
 
450 to install your system is pretty high i work at a stereo shop & yes when u bring your own product the shop charges more in labor.You can run the power wire in the passenger side gromet just cut it & run it inside i ran 2gauge JL AUDIO power wire & ran it inside the black cover under the carpet.Two 15's thats a lot of weight your adding to the car but whatever works for you best.I have two JL AUDIO W7 8inch woofers in my rear deck custom installed & got into a SOUND OFF & hit 135db at the dash a guy with two 15's that hit 132db wasn't to happy.I can try to put some pics so evryone can see my install it looks stock all the way until you see my subs!A customer wanted a car to put a nice system for sound quality when he heard my MM he was amazed!Next thing you know he shows up in a clean 04 MM a week later.
 
I drilled a hole in the passenger side fire wall, used a good three piece plastic gromet to keep the water out and ran all the wires under the carpet. My shop I used to work at would have charged about 450 or so. The key would be make sure it looks great and that the hole doesnt leak anything. I use 1/0 awg in my car also. anything more than 60 amps of current and you should have 1/0 awg.
 
If you are 25 years old and can't even spell well enough to be coherent, then you really shouldn't be mucking about with wire that can carry enough current to kill you.

Two true 1500W amps can pull 1500x2=3000/14.5=206.9 amps.

Pay the $450 and LIVE to tell about it. Please don't ruin another Marauder.

Take the roughly 100 cumulative years (at least that I know of the members who have spoken above, plus my 21 years) of advice provided in this thread.

Thank you Rich - you're so eloquent. But you're dead right. By the way, 12 volts won't kill you.
 
An automotive meltdown can definitely kill! I had a knucklehead Ford dealer mess with one of my fuseholders(disconnected one side and when he put it back, didn't tighten the fuseholder screws...guess what? Fuse didn't blow...but my whole engine compartment almost did as the fuseholder($50 stinger expert series) literally started melting from the increased resistance and just about burned my car down on the highway. If I wasnt alone on the highway and couldn't smell the burning it would have been another dead car and possibly a dead owner!

Pro install is the most important part of any ANY system...Bad Merc has installed my stuff in the past(til I moved 4 hours away) and he's a stinkin' guru and Rich is no slouch so says the whole MM.net board.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR....not a product here....it's all about Experience...that's what's worth $450! The install isnt worth $450...the man/woman with keen knowledge of 12v electronics and their applications IS!
 
Someone enlighten me as to why on earth anyone needs 135db sound pressure? Makes no sense having to wear hearing protection to listen to a sound system. :poke:

If you have to ask, you're too old...at least that's what my punk-ass neighbour's kid said to me when I asked him about his 800 gigawatt system in his VW Golf.:puke:
