Hood Liner Protection

Got stuck having to drive my '03 on the salty Ohio roads last week so I ran it through a car wash to get the underbody rinsed. Noticed that the hood liner got very wet and I realize that is not good for it in the long run. Anybody ever cover it with clear plastic or find some other way to keep it dry in this situation? What about spraying it with water repellant fabric protector? With only 10,000 miles, I want to try and protect as much as I can (without locking it in the garage and never driving it)

It's made of fiberglass. Water won't hurt it. I spray mine off and douse it with armour all or whatever after it dries. Always looks nice.

Mine is not fiberglass, it's a fabric of some sort, pretty much like every other liner I've seen. Has 'Marauder' embroidered on it.

I thought about removing it but those plastic plug/clips really don't like being removed and replaced very much.

I thought my car was mostly 'stock' but I continue to learn that there were changes made. So a cloth one with a sorta faux embroidered 'marauder' is aftermarket? The trunk liner is the same material. Wish I could make it to the Louisville meetup to get some experts to tell me what's been modded but I cannot take off during the week to make it.

This they arnt expensive!

There are at least two manufacturers of the stock unit. I ordered two and received two differently made, each madewith two different materials!

One was really cheap and shoddy and already separating, and the other looked more stock like ours. Had to fight with Ford to get my money back for the cheaply made one.

It really helped the open hood look of the car. Amazing difference. I think a battery or hose or something had "sploaded" under the hood at some point. Everything else perfect, now hood liner is too.

If there is one in the trunk, it is for sure aftermarket. Our trunk lids were nekkid from the factory.

There used to be another company in addition to CAR motorsports which made them, I don't think they're in business any more.

My trunk liner came from DecklidDesigns years ago when they were a supporting vendor on the site. I won it in the raffle at MV III in Detroit, MI back in August 2005.

Got my plastic push pins at Lowe's Hardware for about 1/10 of what Ford Parts wanted for them.

I'm used to restoring vintage VW's where having the factory correct push pin is preferred. Those are not available at a local FLAPS, so I never thought about just removing it and buying new pushpins for the more modern MM where the liner isn't factory and originality is already moot. That's the route I'll take!
