Hurricane Katrina and the American Red Cross

Ford is in my Mazda's blood.
I know everyone by now has seen the news clips and AP photos of New Orleans and Mississippi.

It seems to get worse by the day and yesterday they started evacuating everyone out of N.O. because of rising water and awful conditions.

I want to encourage everyone here to help in what ways they can, including donations to the American Red Cross.

At 7:45a.m. today, I am going to have a meeting with my school priciple and our student body president (Elizabeth McCool) and Elizabeth and I are going to request permission to set up a booth at lunch and at the coming football game to recieve donations under the auspices of the American Red Cross.

I hope everyone is safe and their families are ok too! I express my fullest sympathy to those who are suffering right now. This is the least I can do.

Way to go!!! You, my friend, are a class act.
I had everyone in the house go thru their clothes last night, and anything new or barely worn that could be donated, be set aside for donations. I bet between 3 of us, we had over $1,000.00 worth of clothes and shoes to be sent to the Red cross.
People give all you can, these victims have nothing.
 
The priciple (Mr. Crowley) of the school asked me to have it come through our executive commitee to him instead of directly to his plate and that he would then sign it. (Basically to have an adult overview of the collection process.)

I went to the teacher in charge of Exec. and she was completely obstinate.

I went to the teacher in charge of CSC (another planning comittee at school) and she was all for it.

The priciple then said he wants everyone to sit down and talk about it at once so two things don't happen at the same time.

So nothing is officially set up yet but Mr. Crowley said he'd have a "thorough discussion" with Mrs. Macabee (Exec. teacher.) He was upset that she would not go along with the plan since he wanted it done immediately

At least it will be set up before the football game tomorrow and that way we can have it in front of parents when kids might forget to tell them.

I'm really expecting to do well but wish us luck anyways....Go Warriors!!!

You are right everything that people can do to help must be done. I am Shaijack from the MM.net and I used to live in New Orleans. My family and I left N.O. last Saturday and we are now in St.Paul, MN staying with my daughter. What have I lost. One house that I have lived in for 31 years, one business I have had for 28 years, about everything I have owned including a 73 SS Nova. I did get all three of my daughters and grand children out and we are safe. This is tgruely the worst feeling I have ever had in my life. Lost it all. Things I saved: One 03 MM, 300a, one 05 Ford F-150 crew cab, papers and some other personal stuff.. What I do have is 3 shirts and 3 pairs of short pants and my family. I will be trying to get back to N.O. next week with gas, water and food for the frw friends that stayed in N.O.

From first hand reports I have gathered, the police depts are pulling out all their people and the military IS taking over. Shooting and killing, looting and mayham is rapid. There is NO place safe there. I thank God that my family and I are safe. We traveled as a 5 family caravan and we are looking to lease or rent houses in Memphis or lower. I

The people that we have incountered on this trip my have been generous and over board helpful and I thank them.

I guess what I am saying is if soneone can help DO IT there are alot of people
less fortunate than me. We have three houses and a business that is under 10 foot of water. I will keep you posted as I can get to a computer. Keep all of the refugees in your prayers and hearts. I do not know how to post this on the open forums and if you know how please post it. Barry (Shaijack)
 
Better yet, see if you can get some of the cheerleaders to sell kisses for $10 and the proceeds to the fund.

My heart really goes out to the people who just lost friends/family, all possesions, and their jobs. I'm originally from Baton Rouge, LA. Fortunately all of my family there is okay and my cousin got out of N.O. before the storm.


My parents (retired) are donating their time in the form of 12 hour shifts. My brother-in-law is supplying food to the relief effort. I've chosen to donate funds to the Red Cross myself through their secure web site: http://www.redcross.org/
