I received my door sills a while back but just got around to installing them today...

My concern is that they wont stay affixed to the existing plastic door sill. The tape did not seem to adhere as well as I would have liked. The plastic was thoroughly cleaned and dried before application. I put my full weight along the sills once applied and they don't seem to be on there 'permanently'.

The plastic where the 'marauder sill' has deep groves and I am not sure if there is enough contact with the double stick tape to hold.

I will be out of towen for 4 or 5 days and wont be in the car again until next weekend but was wondering if anyone else had the same experience and concern.

I do like the sills - they do look perfect - i just was to make sure they remain a pernanent part of my car!
 
Rick I put mine on and have no problems. I did them on a warm day and also cleaned my plastic sills real good. I did press them down for awhile to make sure I got a good stick. I like the double face tape allows you to center them. Better than if you used goop adhesive? Which will never come off. Besides you can always buy another roll of the foam double sided tape at the home depot. And re-due them if necessary.

I was a bit worried about this myself. One problem I ran into was on the front passenger sill, the plastic is slightly bowed and the stiff still piece does not contact the entire plastic (this is the outer piece, not the Maurader piece).
So far they've stayed put just fine. If any of them come loose, I had planned on using some silicon adhesive, something that will grip them well and be waterproof, though I wonder if the solvents in the adhesive would damage the plastic on the original sills. The other option is to buy a supply of 3M tape and use it if the tape strips fail.
 
when i installed mine i cleaned the sills and installed w/ pressure as well (sitting on em)but the front pass side came off by bumping it with a pocket book.then i stuck it back on and it seemed the tape lost it adhesion i mean it was still sticky enough to put on and pray but not like when i 1st put em on ..
i was thinking maybe screws that are countersunk that blend in.one on each end and only on the ones that say marauder .if not then keep a roll of double sided tape....
 
Not sure what tape is being used as mine haven't arrived yet, but I would try using 3M's automotive emblem adhesive tape. The stuff I use for the fender badges, it sticks to anything, is about 1mm-1.25mm thick and is darn near indestructable...

Available at any parts store...

Sorry to hear about your problem with the door sill. Here is a post from my other thread helping out MarauderMark.

I have ordered a set and they will be arriving shortly...

I say put 'em on and if you have any problems you can choose from a wide variety of adhesives out there in the market place. They could also be drilled
and attached with screws if needed.

I think it is really the billet aluminum and Marauder logo we are paying for, not the glue.

If I find that there is not enough adhesive tape included, I will write asking for some more before applying them. CJ sounded like a nice guy on the phone and he will probably do whatever is needed to make them right.

I will say one additional thing. Every kit with stick on attachment I have used has specified a thourough cleaning for the area of attachment. You may want to get a quality dustless application rag or pad and use some of the cleaning solution typically used to clean the heads of VCR's etc.

Wipe down the plastic door sill area completely after having first cleaned with windex, etc. The head cleaner is deliberately made to leave NO residue on the surface after cleaning.

CJ - I think these are a great product!

GLAD to hear everyone is enjoying the sills.

In regards to the concerns about the adhesive on the sill kits, I believe it will work well.
I do not recall exactly what the thickness is, but it is a 3M double sided adhesive. We have used this same adhesive on other applications (sills/badges) and it has worked REALLY well. Plese keep me informed as to your experiences with the kits. If any revisions need to be made, we will figure it out and get it taken care of. In the mean time, polish them up and post those pictures! :D

Suggestion for everyone...

When cleaning the plastic door sills PRIOR to attaching the new Marauder Sills,

Use ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL to clean your plastic sills.
DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL.

The two are very different and rubbing alcohol will damage the plastic surface.
Isopropyl alcohol will clean the surface nicely and will evaporate quickly, leaving the surface prepared for the 3M tape.
 
When I installed my polished sills I used Isopropyl alcohol to clean the plastic sills and they stuck on great.

I use Isopropyl alcohol for many things,...

At work I use to to clean aircraft components; everything from aluminum to titanium and even elastomeric rubber.

On the MarauderI've used it to clean the rear bumper before putting my inserts in, used it to clean bugs off the front of my car, under the hood, on the rear quarter panels to remove road tar and rubber.

On Myself!the other day I accidentally stuck myself with .032" safety wire; It went about a half inch into my hand! :rolleyes: So, after I removed it,... I sprayed the hell out of my hand with it.
 
Just jumping here a few months late; of the 4 sets I had, 3 did not stick at all. I prepped the surface, but the double sided tape was just dried out. Went with a silicone caulk on the rears and that seems to be holding up well. The front passenger sills were bowed, and kept coming loose, even with the caulk.

Finally scraped the aluminum sill clean of all tape and residue, and reapplied with clear Liquid Nails adhesive that I got from Home Depot, and it is definitely stuck now!

nothing like reviving a post from the past I forgot all about.....

just so everyone can sleep at night, please be informed that, YES, so far, my sills are sticking just fine with the supplied adhesive strips. The Liquid Nails solution will be what I use if/when the present state of affairs changes.

Thanks for letting me know how you fixed this and for not posting an entirely new thread when this perfectly good 'used' thread would do.

Oh well, I'll add that mine are permanent as well with the supplied tape. Seriously, it's ALL IN THE SURFACE PREPARATION. If they didn't stick, you didn't prep it correctly. I can't even pull mine off at this point.

God help me if I ever use the words LIQUID NAILS and Marauder in the SAME sentence....well...after this anyway.:shake:
