I am a new owner, and my car idles at 1100 RPM...dealer says that's normal....I can't believe it...anyone help me with this?

I can't find the idle speed in the shop manual, but my '03 300A with over 12k miles on it has idled at 700-750rpm from day one. I'm just guessing using the indicated rpm on the OEM tach.

Hey too fast

Are you in park or drive is the engine cold? If a warm engine is in park or neutral an idles at 1100 rpm's thats too fast. Does it jump when putting into drive?Go directly back to nearest FLM dealer and cash in on first warranty visit. tell dealer personel this is your first visit for warranty. Ford sends you a survey for first visit to service dept.

My first start of the day produces a 1000RPM idle, but it lowers to about 700 or so after about a minute.

once warm, I have mine set to 750 rpm, and i find it just a tad too high, need to press to hard on the brake to keep it stopped.... but the dash flicker is gone now. I think 700 would be perfect.

when i had the underdrives on without the idle speed adjusted, it was too slow and would stall sometimes.. it was around 500

Gulfclass - Welcome to the site. As stated above your idle of 1100 is a bit high . A trip to the dealer for a minor adjustment is required.

If your car idled like that right after a coldstart, that would be normal. However, the idle speed should slow down fairly quickly as the engine warms up. Mine idles at around 700-750rpms when parked or in neutral, and 500-600 when idling with the transmission in drive. If your dealer told you that at 1100rpm idle speed was normal under all conditions, then I don't know what to say about them..............

Welcome to the site!
