So, definitely swapping the motor out the marauder when I come back. However, have always wanted to twin turbo coyote swap one. Lately though, I have been pondering the idea of doing the cobra swap... just looking to see what the best bang for the buck is. I know these are heavy cars and definitely wanting to make high power, but not sure where to begin. I know I can do stroker and the mounts would be the same as the 4.6, but not too worried if I need different brackets, PBH makes them if I coyote swap.... i know i can buy turn key pallet kits with engine and trans and all, used, for around 10,000. Seems like a good deal... but then I know I need different driveshaft and all, etc. Want high power but still be reliable to DD. Any opinions or ideas are greatly appreciated

define high hp and daily driver? . a twin turbo coyote is going to need lits of fab work, trial and error type fitting. you better budget $25k for motor, blower. trans, rear end, brakes. incidentals. if doibg labor and fab yourself it will lower costs .

imo 550-600 rwhp is plenty. traction is an issue after 500 rwhp anyway. strokers are notcworrh it. cobra is proven with a 2.3 or 2.9 whipple or 2.3 tvs
 
Big bore stroker and a 4.0 Whipple, race fuel or E85, should get you north of 750 at the wheels.

You’ll have no traction, and if and when it ever hooks, you’ll break a bunch of stuff, ask Jerry, he probably has a motor he can sell you.

I would never buy a used motor and expect it to handle 600 hp just bolting it in as is.. Best bet is to buy new cobra block or rebuilt a used one with machining, new internals and a 2.3 tvs or 2.9 whipple which would require a Class Glass hood, stock hood wont fit. Buy a built trans from Freddy Brown or Silver fox. 31 spline axles and a better trac lok. or buy Darren's car and be done and keep yours as a daily driver. will be money ahead
 
Well already looking at 31 spline axles and trac lok. Looking at 4.10s. Do alot ot autobahn driving but not worried about the fuel economy. Didnt get it for that. Are 4.10s good if I suoercharge it or stick with 3.55?
 
over 500 rwhp....some will say 4.10 still good, others , say 3.55 better. I have 495 rwhp, 4.10 fun on street, sorta sucks on hwy...runnin 2800 rpm or so, but mine isnt daily driver. its a personal.preference. well over 500 rwhp and traction will be a regular issue with 4.10 imo
 
2.3 TVS will fit under stock hood, fuel system upgrade and E85 will be the bees knees, 31 spline and eaton trac loc w/ built tranny sounds great for what you want, of course you will need all forged internal parts with arp fasteners.
 
I will say.... it’s cheaper to find one built, it was fun to make it my own, but if I would have fell into a nicely built S/C Car, I would have bought it.

A manual or a built 4R75 or a 4L80E, yes they make an adapter to fit a Gm trans to the 4.6 block..separate trans controller required.

A few things to keep in mind a 2.9L Whipple will fit under the stock hood , as far as transmissions go your options would be a 6R80 (FORD) or a 4L80E (GM) , no one makes an aftermarket controller for the 6L80E.

i meant 4L80E..i was thinking 6R80 as i typed.
 
I have 2 opinions.
If you want the best bang for the buck as you stated, Eaton swap. As long as you can work the forums and eBay to find parts and do most if not all the labor it's a win. I have 1800 in my entire swap. It's a beast. I drive it anywhere and everywhere without a burp.

Option 2 is to get on svt forum in the gt500 classifieds and buy the 2012 gt500 engine trans ect for 14k and sell the trans and all other uneeded parts to get out under 10k for a reliable monster.
 
I'll second this $25k minimum for a budget or find one on the board. I had $20k in my build built boss5.0 stroker ported heads, comp cams, full exhaust and built 4r75. I'd wait and find someone here selling here to be honest. All you need is a stock one with a power adder anything more you need serious supporting mods like built motor and trans etc. I agree rubber city stroking a mod motor not worth it;) unless buying one done already with a power adder.

Cobra eaton swap or Vortech if I were to do over. Just know you will still be slower than a coyote powered mustang...lol

I'd vote Cobra shortblock Whipple 2.3 and be happy.

I haven't seen many SC 5.4 powered Panthers since the decklid sits too and can't use the OE hood.
