Pulley part # needed

Can anyone tell me what the Ford part number for this pulley is (the one with the red arrows pointing toward it)?

Some have told me it's a YS-245, but if you look at the photos you can clearly see it is not. Also the offset of the bearing is like 1/4" different meaning a YS-245 would ride in a different place.

It's not YS-245, it's not YS-249 and those are the only part numbers I can find, even on Ford parts websites. I'm doing pullies right now and I'd really like to use a Ford part here not some Dorman junk.

If anyone can come up with a part # I would be most grateful. Thanks.

Do you still have the original that you could simply swap in a 6203 bearing?

Is that the Idler Pulley? I believe the OEM FORD Part # XR3Z-8678-BA

It's the upper idler pulley, the smooth one and not the tensioner. The part number you listed corresponds with the YS-245, which is different. Same problem I ran into!

You try Gates? Their stuff is better than Dorman.

It may come to that. Would really love to just find a Motorcraft replacement though.

Yes I do. How involved is replacing the bearing on a pulley? I've done a lot of stuff but never that.

Stupid easy. I buy them bearings a half dozen at a time. I never replace pulleys. It’s literally the most used bearing size for almost all cars. You’ll find a huge selection of different prefixes and suffixes to that number for different options such as seals/speeds, but as long as it’s sealed you aren’t running anything super heavy duty.

I think they’re even found on some hand truck wheels!

I know you have now ordered a bearing, but wondering if there is a Ford part number stamped into the pulley somewhere?

I am only speculating, but in closer examination of your photo and in comparison to other Marauder engines, it looks like OEM Ford XR3Z-8678-BA may have been the original part. I am wondering if perhaps a previous owner put in a different pulley?

Yours doesn't look like mine. I bet that's what happened. I'd love to see more engine compartment pics if anyone wants to share.

The one I took off that spot is a Dorman 419-610. Based on Ambitious1's photos, it looks like someone may have put the wrong pulley on there. If the XR3Z-8678-BA (aka YS-245) is the correct pulley for that spot, I've been running the wrong one because they're slightly different. In this photo, the XR3Z-8678-BA (aka YS-245) is on the left, and the Dorman 419-610 in on the right. Apart from the obvious difference in shape, there's a slight difference in depth once bolted in, as well.

Wondering if now I should just buy a new
XR3Z-8678-BA (aka YS-245) to put there.

Bob, does the 6203 also work in the tensioner pulley as well as the grooved idler pulley?

Based on what I saw, yes. The bearings in the pullies are ALL the same, the only difference is pulley size and shape.

And just as a follow up, it was the YS-245 (XR3Z-8678-BA) that goes in the position I was asking about. The previous owner put the wrong pulley there, and used Dorman parts all over. After boogering up an attempt at just replacing the 6203 bearings (I was rushing), I just put in all new Motorcraft pullies and belt, and now I'm going to forget about it for foreseeably the entire rest of the time I own this car.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks. If it helps you sleep, the YS-245 is also what I have to replace the pulley in that position and appears (without removing it yet) to be the exact replacement.

Yes it’s the same. Although if I recall right the grooved pulley is the plastic one that is molded around the bearing and pretty much non serviceable. I did mine once by cutting the backside and epoxied the new bearing in to hold me until the new one arrived so I could make a meet. These cars seem to eat bearings..

I always keep 3 or 4 of them 6203’s in stock. [emoji16] Even my ProCharger 2 1/2” wide idler had that size bearing X’s two.

Oh, the good ol' days when that comment wouldn't have gone 37 seconds without Casey commenting on you wearing some bearing holes out. But you do have me thinking, I didn't check too closely but I was pretty sure my grooved pulley (04) was also metal until you mentioned plastic. Guess I'll need to spend another weekend in the garage investigating.....
