Removing tint on MM to pass inspection, anyone want to help

I had the car measured at 28 and it is 35% tint. Trust me (and the VA state trooper who measured it). I'm sure that not all of the cheap polyester film tints that claim 35 actually measure 35. Plus as the tint fades it will change.

ebxgsxr, Damien is fighting his ticket because he lives in MD...but got a ticket for "legal" tint in DC...Which I believe you can have no tint in DC...and VA has a different tint law also...He cant just change his tint as he goes from state to state...

oh, i thought he just moved here and needed it to pass MD state safety inspection.

Had the wife take ours somewhere that a friend of ours recommended down in Mechanicsville (I believe) to have our tint removed. I think it cost us around $75 to get that done. The person said he would put MD legal tint back on for about $100 when we wanted.

YES...I dont know if its the right thing...but I drive to DC everyday...and is registered in MD. The DC police could give US tickets...and I had a few buddies go thru VA...and they make you take it OFF on the side of the road. Like I said...I dont know if the police can actually do that but...they do.

Yeap what he said, when I was stationed in VA with VA tags. I had a slightly tinted license tag protective cover and a local cop (MD) pulled me over and made me take it off. Remember MD is no joke when comes to handing out tickets.

I removed mine last month. NO big deal I lucked out started at the top and it peeled off in in one big peace.

When you guys took your tint off of Marauders or other panthers, did you pull any of the interior weatherstripping or any other rubber parts off to take the tint off cleanly, or did you just strip the tint from a fully assembled door?

I actually prefer MD's crap because at least I can have 35% net all the way around. The states that let you have 50%, or NO front tint, but any rear tint, looks incredibly stupid w/ mismatched side windows. 35% net all around is not super dark but dark enough and at least it will be even. I am having my 35 swapped out to 40 this weekend, it won't be enough of a difference that I will really notice and if for some reason I ever did get pulled over it will measure legally anyway. If I were used to 5% and I had to go to 40% film to get 35% net I'd be pissed but going from 28% net to 35% net is nothing I'm going to lose sleep over, esp. knowing that I can't be hassled over it. Thanks

There is a guy in VA who is a mobile service driving out all the way to me in La Plata, he said he will knife edge the tint, which I require, and that he newly carries 40% because of all of the problems people have had in MD with 35% film being illegal on solar glass. I can get the phone # tomorrow. I wasn't going to re do mine but once I hear that someone carried 40%, I gave in and figure it's worth having it re done to be legal

**didnt read through thread yet**

i paid $175 to get my 3% taken off.... peel it and use nail polish remover to save money and time... if help ya but you already left CT lol

It's not worth the hassle and risk of trying to pay someone off for tint that is only 7% away from being legal. If I had limo tint and really wanted to keep it that would be a diff story

Nife edging means running it right to the sharp edge of the glass with no gap. My car is like that now. A lot of tint places leave a gap, which jumps out as looking really cheap to me

i've taken tint off of my MM twice, damn MD law, if you need help i can help you, it's easy, but you'll have to remove the glue on your own (that's the hard part)

VA is worse when it comes to tickets and or harrasment. When I had my out of town tags marauder, they constantly harassed me in a unmarked car with tint 3X's darker than mine. There were days they would just follow me for hours before pulling me over. Thats the only thing I didn't miss about the marauder.
