Repair advice needed!

Driving home this morning on FLA turnpike as I was getting of my exit felt the car vibrating really bad so I pulled over checked for any noticeable leaks, damages, etc and found nothing visible, but as I grandma the car home (3 blocks) I notice the vibration/ misfire was throughout the whole rpm( 600-1500) btw it wouldn't let me drive past 40mph. Thought maybe a plug failed.. as I removed the coils on the DS I found this... Cyl 7.

didn't need to unscrew the plug because it came out with the coil. Metal shaving were also found.
 
Looks like the plug shot out..it should be able to be fixed by a timesert insert and new plug and cop. The head will need tapped/threaded for the insert then put back together..head does not need to come off from what I understand
 
Call ford dealer and some local shops to see if they offer the timesert repair for blown spark plug..it is not uncommon on older 5.4 and 4.6 aluminum heads to have this happen. I believe the whole kit to do it yourself is several hundred dollars. I'm gonna guess $200-$300 for a dealer to repair..but i am only guesstimating becasue they pretty much charge $100 to bring it the bay to diagnose

Ok I'm going with the Timesert and I'll try to get it done by next week. Thought I had and excuse for the wife to get a built motor.
 
I had this happen on my grand marquis about a month ago. I bought a $30 kit at autozone.

Although I never used it, you simply use the tap with grease to remove old threads. Then you insert the new coil threads with some RTV sealant and hammer it to grab the head. It has to cure for 24 hours before you start the car. I didn't do it as I needed the car right away since my Eaton swap was acting up on the MM, and I was afraid the depth of the new coil could exceed what it should be and have the spark plug tap the piston :eek:

I ended up inserting a new spark plug and torque'd it down pretty good. Has lasted almost 1000 miles like this although I do plan on fixing it correctly.

I should also note there was a very audible ticking coming from the motor leading up to this happening. I attributed it to noisy valve train or guides and didn't think to check spark plugs.
 
** UPDATE** found a cheap kit on eBay fairly to perform. Work on its Saturday at 2pm, allow 24hrs for hi temp RV SILICONE to cure. So far so good. Thanks everyone for the advice saved me a lot of $$$.

Ssnake- I sold engines at JASPER ENGINES for 4-5years- it was common on some heads. We had it pegged to a particular date range - I cant remember what it was but it was common. There were only a few threads holding the plugs in. If I remember it was mainly trucks and suv's. 4 out of 5 were trucks 1997 - 1999.
