I do not know how reliable this source is but the SS guys have two petitions, that I am aware of, going telling General Motors their opinions...and they aren't pretty...

Anyway it could be an interesting car... I have driven the new Impala and with the addition of the SC V-6 it ought to have a decent power to weight ratio... Still won't be the same though...

Maybe at SSHS3 we can have a 04 SS square off against a 04 MM..:D
 
I don't think it will make the 3800 lb to be in the show. But anyway how would you do a burnout? Lock the E-brake to spin the FWD POS?

The '04 SS, if it actually comes to being, will have the same motor as the GTP, and so will probably be quicker than the MM and 94-96 SS, stock. It will be very easy to get even more power out of it too, by just changing the S/C pulley.

The petitions that the B/D-body people have going will have no effect, because no petition will compare to the the fact that GM is selling far more W-bodies (2000+ Impala and it's siblings), than they sold B/D-bodies (Caprice, Impala, Roadmaster, Fleetwood) and are making more money on each one they sell. Many B/D body enthusiasts like to think that GM is not thinking clearly on this issue, but the only way they would be satisfied is if GM brings back the B/D-body with no changes except more power and better handling. When it was rumored that GM was going to import the Holden Commodore, as the next Impala SS, many were unhappy because it's not a road-going whale like their present cars, nevermind that it has the same interior space and has better handling and performance from lighter weight, a modern suspension, and the LS-1.

I hope that GM will carry the return to RWD to the Chevy line, but I won't hold my breath either.

What I'm really looking forward to, is the introduction of the GTO, and if they get strong sales from that vehicle, then it will make a better case for more RWD performance oriented sedans down the line.
 
Actually, some people might be surprised that GM never stopped making the V8 rear wheel drive Caprice and Impala. Check out www.gmme.com . This is the Mid-East website of General Motors. Amazing that a 325 HP V8 Chevy Lumina even exists. Of course with all of the whining people here in America about getting 50 MPG, we'll never see such cars. Just really nice mini-vans for mom.

Another site to check out is Holden from Australia. GM's arm in that country. They produce some pretty powerful cars too. Unfortunately, most of those vehicles are right side driving. I'd have to get used to that.
 
Over the years, when visting my wife's "relies" outside of Brisbane (Queensland, Australia), I've rented both Holden and Ford big machines. They're great. Handling is excellent. Steering is faster than ours. Like their big Ford Falcon the best. They've got people that will change their right hand steering to left hand if you want to spend the bucks (I've checked it out just for fun). It's cheaper to buy a Marauder and do what we're all doing!
