Rumors of a return

I was speaking to another car enthusiast at my local cigar shop yesterday. During this conversation I was told that he spoke to someone from Mercury at the NY Car show at Jacobs Javits and was told of a comeback.

This comeback is supposed to be of the Marauder coming back in "07" with the Cobra Motor in it. As I said this was hearsay, but this guy is usually very resourceful with his car information.

Maybe some of you guys that speak to Steve Babcock can confirm or deny this.
 
I had always heard that there was the possibility of a return for the marauder in 07. Also with the new shelby having the 5.4 twin screw dohc motor, and the adrenaline is using the old mustang cobra motor, I believe they will be much more prone to putting the 03 cobra motor in the marauder now. Before that was the top dog motor, so that is probably why it didnt end up in the marauder.
 
Steve responded to someone at Marauderville II when they asked "Is there any hope of a performance car on the Panther body or similary RWD large car being built?" (or something to that extent) and he simply said in a disheartening tone "No."

Possibilities have been discussed a lot...it's EXTREMEMLY unlikely.
 
steve babcock isnt the only person that works for fomoco, not that im diminishing him in any way, but there are other people with other agendas. I would not be suprised at all by an SVT ford panther vehicle
 
I would. No market for a car like that unless it's got loads of luxury crap like an M45 Infinity or a BMW 7-series.
 
Not very realistic

Not much of a chance they would ever do it again, unless the parts bin is full. The MM never had a true identity. It was not advertised. Unless you knew it was out there you wouldn't have found one. It would be nice to move up to a 07 or 08 MM, but not going to hold my breath. -kjs-
 
Well if ford takes a good long look at what Chrysler is doing with the 300C, Magnum, and Charger. Maybe that will give them some motivation to step up.
A Crown Vic/Marquis with new front and rear facia and the 2003 cobra motor in 2007 is possible, but isn't Ford planning on a redesign in 2008?
Anything is possible or is it?

There may be hope after all. . .

The new issue of MotorTrend is reporting that Special Edition Mustangs will be coming. . .If that's the case a Panther Platform Special Edition may not be out of the question. Maybe the "SVT Panther", we can always dream right? :burnout:

Ford SVT poised to grow

Despite a two year hiatus from the market, Ford enthusiasts will find comfort to know that Ford will market up to five SVT products in the future. Should the plan come to fruition, it will be the largest offering in SVT's history.


Since John Coletti's departure at Ford, many had speculated that SVT was a dead brand. Years ago, BlueOvalNews was the first to report that the next Cobra Mustang would wear the Shelby moniker.


Quite the opposite has happened though as the number of Ford employees working on SVT projects has increased from 120 to 200 today.


Ford released the Shelby Mustang GT 500 and the Sport Trac Adrenalin on 23 March 2005 in New York. Click here to see videos of the press media unveilings and speculation has it that an F150 and Fusion will soon follow. It's not clear what the fifth product will be, however, the Focus name may be under consideration.


They don't list a panther platform.
 
Personally, I think it's not going to happen. I actually have more hope that Chevy will come out with another large, rear-drive platform to base a new Impala SS on than Ford making an SVT Panther, and brothers and sisters, that's a slim hope.
