Sct 2 tune questions

Hello fellow owners

I just bought a DPB and it came with a SCT 2 tuner and a tune installed. The tune is good but my gas mileage is a little lower than I would like. I will also be installing UDP's relatively soon; therefore I would like my idle raised.

Does anyone know of a vendor here that can provide me a tune? Th last tuner is not available at this time.

One thing i didnt care for on that tune was that it didnt go into 4th untill right at 40. A lot of roads I drive on are 35 or 45 mph. Or if you get stuck behind someone who isnt going 40 the car was always in third. Maybe for some that is ok, but i think it hurt mileage. I would rather have it go in 4th at 36-37 mph and if I felt the need to keep it out of 4th would have pressed the OD button.
 
Actually there are definitely ways to allow it to go into OD at those speeds and not loose the feel of the original idea the tuner was going for when they set it up that way. Usually the reason a tuner will set it up to either stay out of OD or lockup or both until over 40mph is to keep the car from feeling sluggish and loaded up. The easy way to do that is to just prevent it from happening in general and then tweak what needs to be if the customer doen't like it that way. Some definitely like it and others definitely don't. I think a lot of that depends on what type of driving they normally do.

But, it doesn't have to be that way for sure. The tune can be refined quite a bit for what the driver wants.


I don't know whether that is part of the complaint now or not though. My best advice there is that the OP either needs to find someone local to help out or find a good tuner who does mail order.

This is what I am looking for ... I do not know who does mail order tunes. As for local tuners, what questions should I ask them? From my read on here, I don't want a 'Mustang' tune, as we are heavier than they are.

There you go! You already have the tune in the tuner. Track tune and cruise tune! Congrats on the DPB!
 
I just filled up, 17.2 in my commute, not too terribably horrible, but not great either. The feel of the car was AWESOME though.

After I filled up, I installed the other tune. It felt pretty good still, but we see how the mileage compares.

With the "Z" tune, it is always in the correct gear, and the car feels strong, but I think lesser mileage. With that other tune you will find it doesnt totally downshift after making a turn which puts you in a little bit of a boggy spot. If you can deal with that i think you will find the mileage will be better. Either tune will chirp second if you get on it hard enough.
 
Update:

Will need a new tune once I install the UDP's but the second tune I had -- well even being playful, averaging 18.3 mpg in heavy commute. I was only averaging 18.5-19.0 with the 3.55's.

You don't need a new tune if all you are doing is installing UDP's. Just raise your Drive Idle to 800-850 rpms in the tuner.
 
Wow. I have my OD come on at 53 MPH because most higher speed limits here are 45 and I don't feel like clicking the OD off everytime a jackhole gets in front of me. Anyways, with all my mods I went from a best ever 21 1/2 MPG stock to 23 1/2 MPG in it's current state untill I had the OD raised. Now I can get around 18 MPG, but average 8-12 MPG. No, I'm not kidding. I figure WTH? I have a beater for work, this is a toy/family car, might as well have some fun with it.

So before I rambled off, I meant to say that it is indeed VERY possible to actually increase your MPG's even if you almost double your HP.. Tell your tuner that fuel mileage is deffinately a concern and they can work with you. You will obviously waste gas cruizing around in 3rd so depending on your average around town speed limits, you should just tell him exactly when you would like OD to kick in and just manually click it off when you feel like nailing the go pedal.

I have dealt with Lidio, not exactly a speed demon on call backs, and can come off as cocky at times, but a great guy and knows his stuff nonetheless and has bent over backwards for good friends of mine. D.R. also a great guy and is always extremely helpful and always answers his phone, even on a Sunday night!, but is the absolute worst I have dealt with out of any vender with (and I have built many cars) making good on delivery at even a somewhat normal timeframe, or making good on promises of freebies after admitting of mistakes. BUT in all fairness, I have only given him one shot at making good, everybody makes mistakes! Just sucks it was on my first purchase, but I will give him another chance, when money starts flowing again. Thats MY opinions, and yes I do judge harsh, but I am the one putting MY cash in THEIR pockets. I have no problem critizing, just like a restaurant, I feel it neccessary to share with members my experiences both good and bad.
 
OP also where you get gas can effect you gas mileage as well. Most members who get gas at discount places do get bad gas mileage as compared to getting gas from a brand name station Exxon, Shell, BP. The ethanol content plays a big part as well. I used to get 370-390 miles to a tank, once all the stations in the area went to full 10% ethanol my gas mileage dropped to about 320-330. Now I get about 300-310 to a tank and I do mostly highway cruising.

I have never dealt with DR. When I called Lidio, he called back within an hour -- I was happy.

Wish I knew how to raise the idle myself ... This is the first car I have ever attempted to tune like this. My 94SHO, I got a preprogrammed chip that I just plugged in and was done. This SCT2 is pretty cool to play with, just don't want to mess it up.

As for mileage, it is important somewhat to me. I like the ideal of having a couple of tunes, one for play-time and one for daily. I do not need the car to get 25 mpg -- I did buy a heaver 4 door sedan -- not another Honda. I am happy at the 18.x mark. More is nicer, but not required. I think this is why I am reaching out to Lidio (still need to call him back) and trying to create a tune that I am love with.

Just let us know when you get the UDPs. We can walk you through upping your Idle Speed Drive parameters from the tuner.

Not so sure. I gave him a tuner with 2 tunes, A "Z" tune and another that came with the car when i bought it. The tune that came in the car was locked down and had no changeable parameters. When i loaded the "Z" tune, it asked if i wanted to change parameters, so I believe he could in that tune. So if he reverted back to the other one, which It sounds like he did, I dont think anything was changeable in that tune. However i am not a pro on this stuff.

Anthony, I think after you drive it a while, do a few little mods like pullies or what have you, jump back and forth between the two tunes you have, you will get a better feel for what you like and dont like. Then contact a tuner and have him make you one just how you like it. There is room on the SCT for 1 more tune so you or your tuner can load it on there. You will then have 3 tunes to mess with.

I bought a sct xcal II back in 2004. I loaded a vendors tune & love it. The hand held flash tool can do a lot. I wish I could experiment with it but the directions are limited. It is to easy to damage a motor or trans by changing parameter limits I knows nothing about. Be sure to use the valuable resources members have offered.
