I changed all my front lights with the silverstars and couldn't have been happier until yesterday. I noticed that after just three months, my passenger fog light has burned out. I was wondering if I should switch to a different bulb or if this was just a rare occasion to burn out that quick.

I've had SS H-1 fog lamps since nov-03 and had no problem so it sounds like a rare thing to happen . unless you touched the bulb while installing without wiping them down before closing...
 
I have the SS headlites in for 1 year and 20K and they are always on day or nite while I am in the car.

I realize they are only suppose to last 1 year but mine have surpassed that.
 
Thanks for the replies. I like the SS so i'm glad to here this is uncommon. Looks like the luck of the draw. I will be placing another order as soon as I can.
 
I've had SS headlights since I bought the car and I took them out of my CV before I sold it. SS headlights are like a year old. I also have SS foggies and I've head no problems!!!

Good point from 03SS,

I suspect oil or grease from touch spots causes a hot area on the bulb. This could shorten the life of your lamps.

This could very well be the problem, I did install them without lifting the car and if I remember right it was a struggle. I guess I'll get another set and go from there. Thanks!
 
well we can find out if he greased it or not...

Is the actual GLASS broken all over the inside of your headlamp...or is the bulb just burnt?

By getting grease or water on it, the quick heating/cooling effect it leaves causes the bulb to break...I've already done this to one silverstar, and I set another bulb on fire, and it was there for 2-3 minutes...didn't break till I set cold water on it:lol:But that wasn't an SS bulb...just a regular...

Any auto store (Pep Boys, Advance, etc.) should have them. Or, you can order them online on the link below. This link will take you to the right ones to replace your fogs. Click on the pull-down which says "Start Shopping" and select "SilverStar Headlights and Fogs". The SilverStar H-1s are the ones to use.

To answer your question, I'll add more info to this post....

First,
I drive with my lights on everywhere I go.
(I get my money's worth for sure...)

Second,
I have changed the left Fog lamp bulb at least 5 times in the last year.
I've changed the right bulb twice.

Every time I change the bulb, the element is burned and the bulb glass is untouched.
I can't figure out what is going on.
I try extremely hard not to touch the bulbs at all
when I remove them from the package.

So for the meantime, if my Marauder is going to burn H1 bulbs,
I'm installing the Sylvania H1 bulbs from AutoZone for $3.95 each...

I also have SS 9007 Headlamps.
They have been there since the 2nd week I owned the Marauder
and have not burned out at all.
 
My SS fogs lasted 2 months...I drive with them on all the time!! :mad:

Sylvania told me that 100 hours was the upper lifetime limit for these things...Soooooo back to the OEM's I took out and they are still burning after almost 2 years...finger prints and all!! :beer:

Whit light is too expensive unless you make it the RIGHT way!! :bows:
