Looking to replace my DD 1998 Ranger.

Looking at:

2018 F150 XL, 3.3l V6, automatic, vinyl seats, rubber mat instead of carpet, some of the bells and whistles, 3K miles for about $30K.

2013 F150 XLT, 3.5l twin turbo V6, automatic, cloth seats, carpet, alot of the bells and whistles, 22K miles, for about $22k.

Will be test driving both in the next day or two.

Don't plan on any towing / off roading, will be a DD, less than 300 miles a week.

Opinions on which one to buy?

If you flew Corsair's during the war you'll like the Eco Turbo. Personally I'd find a 5.0l if I was looking at Ford.

Depends how fast you want your pick-up.
Either is light years ahead of the old Rangers in terms of technology, ride comfort and performance.
The 3.5L EcoBoost is very quick.
The 3.3L N/A V6 gets good MPG.

My personal preference for a powertrain is the 2.7L Ecoboost with the 10 speed transmission.
Best of both worlds. (Except that you need to pay 40+ large for a new F150!)

Neither.

Ram 1500. Hemi 5.7L.

I honestly wouldn’t take even a brand new Ram free of charge. I’d happily drive my beater till I could afford a truck. LOL

Seriously.

Edit: I’d take the free one! It would make for a quick flip. [emoji16]

I've had fantastic luck with 2 Dodge RAM HEMI trucks.......plenty of power and had 185K miles on the 2004 I sold......still have my 2008 and it still has the original battery......so there "Nay Sayer Bob"!!;)

This one i just bought brand new. Very happy with it!!! Had to upgrade the radio and planning on adding steps. Love getting 18 mpg on the highway!!!! Oh, and it's a 4 x 4.

Only 18 on the highway? My 18 3.5 EB 4x4 gets almost 17 and its hardly ever on the highway.

A quick search on the f150 forums will give you some better insight.

I personally would stay away from used turbo anything. Cam, timing chain & turbo issues it seems.

Run an OASIS, if you are buying from a Ford dealer, they will provide it for free.

Good luck.

I'd rather go around telling people I had herpes, than tell them that I drive a dodge.

2011 FX4 super-cab 5.0L 3.73RAR - routinely get 16MPG city 22MPG highway (best has been 25MPG).

I am biased. I drove an ‘11 3.5 for about a year, then moved up to a brand new ‘15 3.5 lariat CC in April of 16. Absolutely wonderful truck. Sport mode is stupid fast .... i average ~16 in my day to day. This includes towing, 4wd, ko2’s on each corner, grill guard with winch ... you get the picture. On bighway trips with 5 folks in it, i average really close to 20.

Currently have 61k miles on mine since April ‘16. A tsb replaces a 4wd actuator in the front and the transfer case.

The 2018 F150 smaller Ecoboost motors are blowing up quite often according to my local Ford dude.

Just get the 5.0 liter, I really like mine. Gets 18/22 mpg and will pull a skyscraper off its foundation.

With all the recent work to your Ranger, why have you decided to replace it?

It's going to need more repairs... rear brakes, rear axle seals, motor uses 2 qts. between changes (should be rebuilt) and all four ball joints need replacing since the dust boots are not there.
