Time to put timing chains and tensioners on.

Well, I had a good run. 262,000 hard miles and I'm hearing the clatter of my timing chain. More so on the drivers side. So if I'm going in.......Doing it all. I've timed plenty of Jaguar 4 valve motors. (4.0 and 4.2) Although they have Variable Valve timing I'd think i'd be easier to do on the Marauder. Has anyone ever done this job? What I'm really asking is should I buy the tools to hold the cams in place or can I do without?
 
With that many "hard" miles you prolly need a full Engine rebuild! not just chains and tensioners.
 
I did mine twice... only buy ford parts. I learns the hard way. First time took me 14 hours. Second time was 4 hours. Any questions you can text me. (602) 796-6099
 
Seems a lot of people are replacing theirs this year.

Don't replace the tensioners with the plastic ones, spend a little extra and get the iron ones that will be mentioned in the links below. When mine were replaced, we just used zip ties to hold everything in position. With your mileage you will probably want to replace the crossover tube o-rings as well.

The part numbers for the timing chain guides are as follows:

1R3Z-6L253-AA
1R3Z-6L253-BA
2C5Z-6K297-AA
1R3Z-6M256-AA

Only buy Ford parts.
 
Guys, is it correct no one sells the plastic guide only? Sucks to have to buy the aluminum arm also if only the plastic part needs replacing.

I always remove the followers from the heads whenever I remove chains/sprockets.
Not everyone does it this way, to me it is the easiest way but it is not the same for everyone.

Hello I know this has been a few weeks since last post. But I was wondering if replacing the oil pump would be recommended or even feasible while doing the timing set.. not that there is anything wrong with mine. just was wondering if since I am having to do mine soon if I should get this taken care of as well?

That is only possible if you have under-developed fingers or the engine is out.
Leave it alone if it still pumps oil....they never go bad
 
262k miles good to hear. Just picked up 03 300A for a parts car price with 170K mi. runs really nice. with possible 100k mi left and issues it dose have are not overwhelming running out of desire to take it apart :confused:
