im not 100% sure but it must be because its only when driving super hard and loading the trannyOver "FULL" or wrong fluid.....Foaming???![]()
Either will cause fluid to "Burp" out of the vent and probably get on the exhaust...SMOKE!!!:shake:
How do you know it is HOT??![]()

I was told to turn OD off if I'm going to be getting on it. I've also read on here that the trans does not do well or last long when shifting down to 2nd or 3rd from OD and it will burn out the OD band.remember that ford says to leave the overdrive on when in pursuit....this is a change from the pre-electronic tranny days...I guess that qualifies for driving hard.

What will kill an OD band in a few events is this.....There is a MPH that above that speed you will command 3rd gear solenoid state in manual 2. This does NOT mean you get third gear, what you really get is 2nd gear with the one way clutch overrunning, so the engine will return it idle speed. When you coast down below this speed (and it's typically in the 90-100 MPH range) the OD band comes and has to stop the reverse cylinder, but in doing this it now brings the engine speed up from idle (1000ish RPM) to that speed (5000ish RPM). The energy that goes into the band during this event is staggering and will burn it up pretty quick.
Several fixes, don't do that. Raise the MPH for a manual 3-2 pull in to 127.5 and assume that the person is smart enough to not not to overrev the engine. You can also install a kevlar band. It's very hard to burn up a kevlar band, even with a torch (yes I tried this once at Ford).....
I know it's more info than what this thread was asking for but that's what you get sometimes.
