What front shocks?

I'm replacing my fronts in a few weeks. Both are leaking all over my driveway. Rockauto lists two part numbers for the fronts. One is p/n ASH1153 for $122 ,the other is p/n ASH261 for $55. Which ones do i need? Whats the difference between the two?

I recently replaced the OEM shocks and struts in my car with Monroe Severe Service units and am very pleased with them. IMO, they out-perform the OEM units and have a 3 year full warranty on them.

Front struts: 20740389 $95.99 (Advance Auto)

Rear shocks: 20740387 $50.99 (Advance Auto)

I just put KYB's on the front, from their web site right at $90 shipped, arrived in a couple days, and have Monroe severe service on the rear.

In case you didn't know, the OEM dampers are Tokico, not FOMOCO. Most likely the reason for the higher cost for the OEMs as they are aftermarkets already. I'd go with what your budget can afford. All the ones mentioned above are good.

I would have expected ASH261 to be discontinued by now. This number should be linked to the original shock design (spun-closed), but that design was replaced by the ASH1153 (staked-closed) more than four years ago. I guess the ASH261 would still work, if you can actually get it.

I just put the Monroe severe service shocks on my 05 GM, front and back, about 3 weeks ago and absolutely love them.
