What to check for on a 50K inspection?

I'd like to see if I can do some of this stuff myself. My local Ford dealer tends to be incompetent, and my local Mercury dealer, well, isn't local.

Any Ford technicians out there that can advise? Easy things to do, tough things to do? I've never worked on a Ford before. I'm a novice wrench. I'd also like to know what brand of synthetic anyone recommends. ATF and brake fluid too, if necessary. I don't think I'd know how to bleed the air from the lines, so I'll probably leave that alone. Also, I'd like to know how difficult a radiator flush would be.

OK, I'll start...

Change the oil. Brand is completely up to you. Contrary to popular opinion, there IS no "best". Use a Motorcraft FL820S filter.

Change the ATF and filter (if it hasn't been done already).

Change the fuel filter. (same comment as above).

Inspect the hoses and serpentine belt for signs of cracking.

Inspect the air filter and replace if necessary.

Inspect the battery terminals and clean if necessary.

If you really feel ambitious, change the differential fluid. Use 75W-140 synthetic and one bottle of XL-3 friction modifier.

Let me add that you don't need to be a Ford technician to respond, I only asked to get an idea of what Ford does. I'm sure members here know more specifically what a Marauder needs/wants.

I've already changed the front and rear rotors and pads. The air filter has been replaced recently by an AEM FIPK.

Go with synthetic....they are the best...

I went with Royal Purple...All synthetics are good stuff...

I'll add... clean your MAF...Go with the Gold coolant, when flushing the rad....change plugs (after Seafoam tank)...pour a can of Seafoam in your tank (before the plug change)...

It depends on your use. If you blindly change the oil every 3,000 miles because that's what your father did, and his father, and his father's father (or because Jiffy Lube says so :eek: ), then use whatever oil's on special that week. If you drive your car hard, tow things, do lots of short trips in freezing weather, or regularly carry 4 morbidly obese people and their luggage through the mountains of Vermont in July, then use a good synthetic like Pennzoil Platinum, Royal Purple, AMSOIL, or Mobil 1.
 
I'm sorry...

Seafoam tank = Seafoam (the cleaning product) in your fuel tank...

By pouring Seafoam (product name) in your fuel tank...You clean out your fuel lines as well as your injectors...Then you would change the fuel filter, and spark plugs...

The main purpose is to clean out your injectors...

Can you use the seafoam after spark plug and fuel filter change?
 
I don't understand all the hype about Sea Foam on this site.
Personally I would never use it, maybe in my lawnmower.. but definitely not in the Marauder.

And if your going to change the ATF fluid, prepare yourself for a "tranny fluid shower", because there is no drain plug on the stock pan. So it's a good idea to replace the stock pan to make future oil changes easier.
 
Seafoam is really a good product...

You can use it after the plug and filter change...No harm...

It's just that I like to do it before the change...
