What's REAL difference between these SC's?

After doing some surfing and planning for an Eaton Swap, I see different blowers available. What is the REAL difference (for our cars) between a stock Cobra Eaton, Stegmeier and POSI? All I know is the Steg and POSI's are ported. But, is that really important on a basic Eaton Swap with my mods below?

Porting makes them produce less heat and more efficient. However at lower boost levels it's not a massive gain. Going from a imported with a 2.76 to a posi with all same stuff picked up 54rwhp on an 03' cobra. Dollar per HP that's quite the ass kicker. I think a 8-10psi car would likely have a 20hp or so advantage over an unported one.

So are all the ported blowers (like POSI and Steg) pretty much the same?

It seems you are getting a little bit off track -Posi and Stegmeir are supercharger rebuilding /porting services. They do not make any superchargers but they rebuild different types and port them.

In fact Posi has shut down and does not port superchargers anymore.

What you are looking at is the different types of superchargers -centri's (Procharger/paxton/ cant remember so someone help out) and roots style superchargerss like the trilogy (not made anymore), Eaton and whipple and I am sure their are more.

Each one has their supporters and they are all good

Google up the different styles of superchargers and you will see the differences of each style. Also use google to search this site for past threads as we have had many spirited discussions on this subject matter over the years.

I know I gave you more questions but I hope I have pointed you in the right direction.

The main reason I was asking is because I see an occasional listing of a POSI or Steg blower for sale. Of course, they always seem to be slightly more than just a regular Eaton. But, if there are benefits of a ported blower over a non-ported blower, then I might spring for the extra dough. But, other than the Eaton swap and associated mods, I really don't plan on needing the extra HP of a ported blower. If there are other benefits, like being more efficient, than, that might be enough for me to consider. No crazy boost levels needed. I don't want to grenade the motor.

Gotcha -if your still a stock engined marauder then I would consider just doing an eaton swap. At that level your engine is not capable of handling all of the boost from a ported supercharger. Can it hurt -probably not-but you are not going to be using it. You are going to probably be in the 8lb boost range and depending on your other mods high 300's to low 400's in hp.

Their are alot of other mods for you to do before you should consider porting your blower. I would not waste the money on it right now. Down the road you can always have your blower ported so you are really not missing out on anything.

Stock MM engines are safe up to around 450 hp then after that you will be building a new motor. Good luck

Thanks! If I stumbled on a deal for my Eaton swap that included a ported blower, then, that is what I was wondering. Like I said, I probably will never do any more than the Eaton Swap to this car. I

If you can get a ported one for a good price I would go for it...

Lower intake temps from the ported blower will allow more spark... hence making better torque numbers at lower boost levels. Just my 2 cents.

I am sending my Trilogy out to get ported along with the bend and the throttle body matched to a single bladed throttle at some stage... Probally when I stop dreaming and wake up :)

The porting alone will not increase boost. Just smooth out the flow and make it cooler.
Increase boost needs more pulley.
It DOES make that segzy whine louder though!

But to clarify, Posi and Steig take an existing supercharger and port it.

Oh really shooter. I think you should send it to racerx snd get it done on this off-season:beatnik:

If I was working and making money maybe... ;)

Can't take anything off the car myself at the moment... Damn Fiancé and Doctors restrictions.

I would like a whiny supercharger! ;) :burnout: :burnout:

If I could run a little less boost and make the same power, that seems like that would be better for the engine!

I'm really good at taking things apart :D

Maybe we can pay him in cot Plugs

I think of all the stupid comments I've made the main point of engine mods is to increase efficiency through decreased pumping losses. Porting and port matching helps with this but does come at a high cost with little raw hp rewards.

Unless someone else did it for you! ;)
