Which gears for the beast???

I am debating changing rear gears. It has 4.10's now but with all the tq it has, it definitely does not need them. I want to go back to something closer to stock or maybe even below stock. 3.55 was my first thought. But my friend has a set of 3.27 (or whatever the closest ford gear set is, I may have that number wrong).

I also understand this may load the turbo a little quicker also. I dont want it too low as I dont want to blow the tires off no matter what I do.

Plus I think this car with the upgraded turbo and heads is a highway monster. Some friends of mine went down to the Top Gun Run in south Florida to do the standing mile. I might take the Marauder there next time if I dont sell it first. 4.10's would just be way to much gear for the mile.
 
Hay Todd ..Glad to see you back and posting again ...from the reserch i have done since i also have a turbo kit ..turbos like lower gears ...so 3.33 would be what i would have choose

Seems like an aftermarket torque converter of about 3000 stall would be a good setup with 3.55 (stock) or 3.27 gears.

Nice setup BTW.
 
Thanks for the input. I may give the 3.27's a shot. I am waiting to hear if my friend does indeed have the set available. I think it will be a really good setup for the car.

3.27's is what most cobra guys used with turbos, im sure it will work fine for you

Gears and stall are two big choices for the turbo.
I did a lot of research and have gone with 3:73's so far.
I still have not been able to tune the MM the way I want because of the stock motor.
My E-boost is aligned to not build maximum boost as it was too hard to control when tuning the stock motor. It shot past 500 rwhp below 5000 rpm on one of our initial runs, so I routed the lines for the slower boost setting.
I recently purchased Ed's motor, so when I get the time and motivation I will swap it out.
I plan on re-routing the boost controller to build maximum boost and leave the setting at 33% or reducing it a little before the first dyno run.
I want to run a 3000 stall with my 3:73's and see how it goes. I have considered going back to the 3:55's, but not any lower.
I want to maintain the streetability/driveability of the car. Meaning I want it responsive out of boost and I don't want the turbo kicking in on the street unless I really want it too. You know how ugly it gets when the Genie wakes up! :)
I don't plan on swapping the motor for a month or so, so you may get your experiment out of the way before I do and I can learn from you....again. :)

Cool, I hope you get the motor in soon so you can enjoy it at higher boost level. The turbo power is crazy. I dont recall the hose routing options on the EBoost2 so I am not sure I remember what you are talking about. But I do remember you can control the 'ramp rate' or whatever you call it to control how long the controller holds the wastegate shut before your desired boost level.

I will have to spend some time reading the manual for the Eboost2 again soon. It controls a LOT of stuff. If I still have the car when I finish all the other little things, I may up the boost then. The 76 is really too big to run at 10psi. Its a waste of money.

Pm me when you put the motor in. I dont read here much anymore. But will try to watch for your thread.

My set-up has the solenoid vented, where as the maximum boost method has the normal vent on the solenoid going to the bottom port of the waste gate.
Kinda sceeeered to try that set-up!!!!! :D
I am at 9.5 psi now, shooting for 14-15 or about 600 rwhp (whichever comes first) on the next motor. :eek:
I think my 66 mm is about 22-23hp per psi.
