Wrench Size Needed

Hey, what size wrench is needed for the jam nut on the inner tie rod? I don't seem to have one that fits correctly.

You can always take a set of calipers to it, they are like 10 bucks from home depot, digital with metric, inch, and inch fraction displays

I don't trust those things to not round off stuff that's on the rusty side. No matter how correctly they seem adjusted, when I use them they slip and damage nuts and bolts.

Get better ones. As a Plumber I use them daily without fail.

Worst case go rent something from Advance.

So, I do have some digital calipers, and checked it when I got home. 21mm. No wonder why I had trouble. The closest I had in size was 7/8. Didn't think it was going to be metric. I was just hoping someone knew offhand so I could stop at the store on my way home and grab a proper wrench before I forgot. But now I'm off to hopefully fix someone's A/C., and no time to shop for tools.

Next time. Get a 6 point socket or wrench that is slightly larger, then put a red rag, or blue shop rag in between 1 or 2 folds to make it tight

It works

Best to get a great set of Metric wrenches.

There are lots and lots of metric nuts/bolts on these cars.
(It IS a Canadian car after all ;) )
(Ok ok..Canadian made).

But seriously...great tools go a long way to "saving your knuckles" and stops you from inventing new swear words in the process!

Actually, I have a pretty decent set of tools. I've nust never encountered so large of a metric nut before that I wasn't able to reach with a socket. My metric hand wrenches only go up to 18mm, but I have some pretty large SAE hand wrenches. I guess I finally have a reason to buy more tools, not like one was needed, amirite? =)
