We're always going to have idiot drivers. Idiots texting while driving, talking on the phone, doing their make-up, eating, reading newspapers. We live in a multi-tasking society and that same society is filled with a large amount of morons, which doesn't make for a good combination.
I will say this though, I think raising the driving age to 18 can help. It's not a solution, but as an early teenager you are too easily distracted and haven't learned to respect the power you have behind the wheel. What very few teenagers realize is that a faulty decision behind the wheel can cost someone else there life. A person may never be able to emotional recover from something like that, but I know a 16 year old does not have the capability to even fathom dealing with something like that.
My Drivers Ed program was a summer program where we did do highway driving and defensive driving which greatly helped. But at 16, I don't think anyone should have a drivers license, as inconvenient as it is for adults, I think those 2 years make a huge diference in maturity and respect for others and the vehicle. Just my opinion
