I didn't think these cars have a sensor for cylinder head temps. Just coolant.
It's hard to figure out mpg loss because of it since I'm using winter gas and my mpgs drop 2-3 normally during winter. I just need to hurry up and get all the little things for my new motor and get it done.Chris, to my knowledge this could lead to increased fuel to cool the cylinder and pulled timing Worst case scenario. Probably losing 1 or 2 MPG.

the sensor is located on the crossover pipe near the alt, but you have 2 sensors the driver side 1 is to the gauge in the dash cluster and the passnger side 1, thats the one the dealer says is the cyclinder head temp sensor is what the PCM reads to work your cooling fan so becareful on which of the sensor has failed! if the temp gauge gives a reading on the dash then the 1 on the left side is still good and right side that the PCM reads from has failed and your fan might not come on while driving!
While searching the forum I found this tidbit
Chris, thanks for finding this. I was going to post that I thought one sensor was for the gauge and one for the PCM, and that neither one was a true cylinder head temp, but I wasn't sure of that as it was so long ago.mercuryed said:the sensor is located on the crossover pipe near the alt, but you have 2 sensors the driver side 1 is to the gauge in the dash cluster and the passnger side 1, thats the one the dealer says is the cyclinder head temp sensor is what the PCM reads to work your cooling fan so becareful on which of the sensor has failed! if the temp gauge gives a reading on the dash then the 1 on the left side is still good and right side that the PCM reads from has failed and your fan might not come on while driving!
