Gas prices in Shreveport, La area

So the good news is in the usa we are only taxed 1/2 to death instead of in Europe where it 3/4

We should be happy little sheep and stfu :lol:
 
Having a price war around here right now, costco opened a new fuel station a couple weeks back and seem intent on being a couple cents a litre cheaper than anyone else. Of course you need a costco membership and i'm sure they are selling a ton of them! Look for a truce soon.

.96 cents a litre for regular right now which would put it about $2,75 US per US gallon, not bad for these parts!

If the car will run on that dark British stout, you could save money. As I recall on my eight trips to the UK, beer is cheaper than gasoline... and it tastes better too!

You package will be mailed on Monday, when I get back from a staff meeting at the University. I can't believe that the new school year is starting already.
Is that a Lincoln Town car parked at you garage, behind the petrol pumps?

gas here is 2.42.9 for low test and down to 2.82.9 for 93 octane diesel is like 2.62 I think. saving me money :) like to see it go under $2 here . last time gas fell we saw 1.99.9 for 1 day . Got outa the market awhile ago. don't know if it will crash but I'm expecting it to .

If so... cool!

As Bluerauder pointed out, gas is for the most part the same worldwide. Taxation levels make it more expensive here in Canada and really expensive for those overseas. Of course at the end of the day the government needs money to function and there are a thousand ways of raising that capitol. Sin taxes have merit IMO.

The down side is that states, counties and cities derive a large percentage of their revenue from Gasoline taxes. However they make their budgets a year in advance. Already governments are screaming about loss of revenue that they can't make up and are ready to raise taxes, cut services or both. There may not be a silver lining to this bonanza at the pump.

I would rather have stability at a reasonable price than these non-programmed ups and downs.

I'll have to talk to Donald about that.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i think the taxes are per litre/gallon, meaning daily fluctuations don't affect the taxation take.

This is the ******** :bs: game that Governments at all levels play. The taxes on Gasoline and Diesel fuel in Virginia are supposed to go into a Transportation Trust Fund to build new roads and maintain the existing ones. However, the "fund" gets raided by the politicians to pay for all their great ideas and latest Give-Away programs. When there is not enough money to pay for roads and maintenance, these same politicians Cry Wolf to jack up taxes in other areas or introduce new Fees because low information voters can't tell the difference between a tax and a fee. I'm still paying an annual Personal Property tax on my 12 year old Marauder in Virginia. This tax was supposed to go away more than 20 years ago. Guess what ??

The State of Maryland said that taxes from the Casino and Gambling Industry would be "fenced" to support Education. Guess what !!! People will scream bloody murder about Transportation and Education. They are the Gold Watches that are used to extort more taxes every year from a semi-Literate population. :rolleyes:
 
Silly me, I used the wrong example. I should have said that cars are more economical and are using less gas.

But Bluerauder has made a good point, the gas trust funds that are supposed to be used to construct and repair roads are being raided. According to the American Petroleum Institute Louisiana gas tax is 38.4 cents per gallon but the pirates are raiding it to the tune of 20 cents per gal. That's more than half. No wonder Louisiana roads rough.

If you are paying .96 CAD per liter, you're paying the equivalent of $1.26 US per liter which equates to $4.58 per gallon. The Canadian dollar is worth .76 of a US dollar.

Pump price flux does not affect the tax revenue collected.

Tax is per gallon, same number of gals are being sold just at a lower cost = same tax $ collected.

i.e. $0.25 tax per gal = same $ collected whether it's $1 gallon or $4 gallon.

You would be correct if the tax was collected like sales tax as a % of the total sale. This is specifically why the govts don't do it this way - to avoid what you were referencing.
