Kenne Bell Ordered!

Zack

Turbo Marauder
Yep, ordered the 99-01 Cobra/03-04 Mach 1 Kit.
I decontented the kit drastically, due to me having a lot of parts already. I got a good deal and it will work just fine with the 98 cobra timing cover on the engine.
Now remember, I have a STOCK MOTOR back in the car. This will be an awesome test to see just how much power the Kenne Bell will make and of course I will pound the hell out of it.
I wanted to get a 2.6L Blowzilla or even a 2.4 but they are only tailored to Cobras with a dual belt system. So I resorted to the 2.2L Blowzilla. With the 10:1 Compression, I dont think I will have any problems.
I ordered the kit with around 13 lbs of boost and an 8 rib pulley. I was told to expect everything in 3-4 weeks, due to the wild popularity of Kenne Bell products.
Yes, the intake tract will be on the passenger side. A bracket is provided to relocate the alternator so it faces backwards. Im still toying with the idea of moving the battery to the other side of the engine compartment so I can make a traffic lane for the cold air kit. We will see what happens when I get everything.
Im also getting a Cobra lower intake with a modified Cobra intercooler. I already have 2 heat exchangers on the car and a coolant pump so I removed those items from the kit. I know for a fact I will have to modify the coolant crossover tube that comes with the kit because it is supplied with the upper radiator hose tube on the passenger side. No problem, that is the only welding that will be needed.
I cant wait, I will actually document this install and post pics as progress is made. Another chapter in the book of 'Stupid Fast'

You suck Zack! :D

Details on the install with pics is essential.

Good luck!

Mike.

I always heard lower compression = better for boost. Why the high boost levels w/ stock compression?

Have I been mis-informed, or am I just missing something?

PS - Congrats on the purchase! Can't wait to see the modification and install pics!

Just wondering why you did this???

Because my forged motor from PER made less power than a stock motor.
You should have seen the junk machine work when it got ripped down.
I have another forged shortblock waiting.

You're the second guy I've heard say negative things about PER.

The stock compression does limit the boost, but 13-15 psi should be no problem.

Nice kit Zack, I had been eyeing that myself but KB does not usually sell kits except for exact applications. I guess in the case of the Blowzilla's these are more like 'tuner' kits.
Best of luck, that will be a beastie!!

Do you plan on having this dyno tuned? By whom? This should be a great setup for the Marauder. Good luck.

The forged motor, all else being equal has to make less power, the rotating mass weighs more, obviously you saw something you didn't like. Can you tells us or show us what you saw that did not impress you?

The machine work was garbage and he used steel retainers in the heads instead of titanium.
It was stroked to 5.0 liters, valve job, 10:1 compression, 16 lbs of boost as compared to my previous 10lbs. Upgraded to a T-Trim blower.
Gained 1 horsepower and 20 pounds of torque.
Like I said, the motor was junk.

That's just freaking sad, right there.
Did you get some sort of satisfaction from them?
PER ? Acronym for whom? How does one avoid this Noid?

You don't ger out much, do you.

There are four of us here and dozens in the area who got ripped. I was the first, then Zack. The other two can out themselves if they wish.

1) I did not get the quality machine work on the block that I paid for. Piston-to-cylinder wall clearance was set at .0045, which may be okay for full time race engine that gets freshened up 15 passes, but it's "Grand Canyon" like clearance in a street engine. Thus, pistons rattled, and the skirts gouged the cylinder walls. The engine eventually came to burn/throw 1 quart of oil every 350 miles. In the end, gents, it was literally spiting engine oil out the exhaust.

2) Heads/block were not decked at all, and the head gaskets on both between 2-3 and 6-7 cylinders blew out. Cam girdles were stripped out and repaired with SAE "almost fit" bolts coated in RVT.

3) Valve cover oil baffles were taken/left out, causing oil to splash and slosh into the PVC system, and recirculate into the blower. I corrected this myself, but long term damage had been done.

4) In my case (and one other victim) the wrong pistons were installed. JE forged aluminum 8.5:1. This is not what I asked, or, paid for, despite the effort to doctor invoices.

Last March, I had enough and asked Zack for help. We pulled the engine, broke it down, found all the errors and set out to build it right ourselves. Not only was it cheaper, but I am making more power than ever, and from less boost. Better MPG, zero oil loss, the car has never been faster. Many thanks to Zack, and Chris @ Van Drunen Ford as well.

The 1x is up and running better than ever now, but the real story here, is the one slick con-man who defrauded us all. If y'all knew who the others were, you would agree that as a group, we are not stupid people. But, sometimes it's not easy to detect a liar, and the man puts on a good show. We learned more about him, after he took our money.

I know someone will ask "didn't you check his referrences?", our attroney asked too. And yes, we did. Perhaps the proprietor was legit and good at his trade when the business was young, Lord knows he owns all the right tools. But, some time since then the business turned. It remains a business today because the proprietor banks on the fact that the engines he builds are bought by a younger crowd who constantly push the edge and break things before they are deteced as inferior.

This is in litigation now, but it's going to be a difficult path. Anytime the word "race" is used in a sentence, folks forget what "fraud" means.
